According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the 2021 - 2025 period, coastal provinces have implemented 147 forest protection and development projects, with a total investment of VND 2,631 billion.

Of which, central budget capital is 389 billion VND, local budget capital is 551 billion VND; the rest is ODA capital, capital of organizations, individuals and enterprises.

Localities have organized the protection of 281,000 hectares of coastal forests, reaching 102% of the project plan. The total forestation area is 11,627 hectares (of which, mangrove forests are 7,741 hectares), reaching 58% of the project plan.

Besides the advantages, the project implementation process also encountered some difficulties and challenges such as: every year, the provinces are affected by storms and tropical depressions with high frequency, high tides, and monsoon winds.

Along with climate change, rising sea levels cause coastal erosion, land loss, forest loss, difficulties in afforestation activities, and deterioration of coastal ecosystems.

Land funds for coastal afforestation are increasingly scarce and difficult to obtain, mainly on small, fragmented areas; many places have to apply technical solutions to create new alluvial deposits and beaches for planting, leading to very high costs for coastal afforestation.

At the conference, Mr. Trieu Van Luc, Deputy Director of the Department of Forestry and Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) emphasized that coastal forests play a very important role, acting as a green wall to reduce waves, block wind, protect coastal structures, and contribute to responding to climate change.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Forestry and Forest Rangers requested coastal provinces to carefully review land funds, make detailed plans for each year, and clearly state the progress of afforestation until 2030.

Continue to effectively carry out propaganda and education work to raise awareness among people and communities in coastal areas about afforestation.

Strengthening the application of science and technology, advanced technical solutions in the management, protection and development of coastal forests. Mobilizing resources to participate in forest planting, creating a green coastal wall.
