The contractor of Dong Dang-Tra Linh project deployed a modern asphalt paving line including many compaction equipment, conducting the hot asphalt paving process at construction site Km11 (Van Lang commune, Lang Son ).
According to the assessment of experts in the transport and construction industry, completing 1,000 km of highway in more than 1 year is an extremely heavy task. Having gone through 2025 fighting against continuous natural disasters and floods, the bridge workers have been saving every day, every hour, constructing, removing every "knot", diligently creating a "magnificent picture" of 3,000 km of highway from Cao Bang to Ca Mau.
Projects that light up every night
In early December, the entire construction site of the Dong Dang-Tra Linh Expressway project is in the "final stage". The "critical path" items have been calculated and selected scientifically and methodically to quickly bring the project "to the finish line" on time, ensuring the quality of the project.
The project passes through Lang Son and Cao Bang, with a total length of 121km, including 1 special-class bridge and 5 class 1 bridges, divided into 2 phases with a total investment of nearly 23,000 billion VND.
Due to the construction area's caster geological structure and rugged terrain, and the particularly heavy rain and floods that have lasted in the area in recent times, this is one of the most challenging highway projects in the country today, and has been identified by investors and contractors as "the key of the key".
Director of the General Contractor Board of the project, Pham Duy Hieu, said that last October, the circulation of storms No. 10 and 11 "paralyzed" all construction activities, the construction site was isolated, auxiliary works were eroded and swept away, causing damage of about 53 billion VND.
Immediately after that, the contractors doubled their manpower and machinery. Every night, the construction site was brightly lit to make up for the progress, striving to clear about 70 km of the route on the segments before December 19; the remaining route was targeted to be cleared before the Lunar New Year on asphalt concrete and crushed stone, except for some additional items.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Khuong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Construction Investment Group 568, said that the construction pace on the entire route is maintained at a very high level, many drivers eat lunch right in the cabin to be on time for the new shift, showing their determination to "stick to the construction site".
Although the priority is given to the goal of clearing the route, investors and contractors do not compromise on the quality of the project. Some roadbed locations have been constructed and compacted to the K98 layer, meeting the conditions for laying the base layer or clearing the route on the asphalt concrete layer, but the General Contractor still continues to monitor the settlement of the roadbed until the parameters are stable before completing the project, to ensure long-term sustainability.

At the construction site of Km11 (Van Lang commune, Lang Son province), the first section of about 150m long was paved with asphalt before the entire route was paved. The contractor deployed a modern paving line with many compacting equipment, conducting the hot asphalt paving process with strict technical requirements to ensure the road surface is flat and meets current standards and regulations.
Recently, Chairman of Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee Le Hai Hoa inspected the construction site at night, requesting investors and contractors to mobilize maximum human resources, machinery, and overtime with the spirit of "warriors", ensuring construction quality and labor safety, bringing the project to the finish line on time, fulfilling commitments to the Government, locality and especially to the people.
The authorities of Cao Bang and Lang Son provinces will coordinate closely to completely resolve the backlog of land issues so that contractors can feel secure in speeding up construction progress.
Determined to "weather the storm"
At the construction site of the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon Expressway, the largest component project of the North-South Expressway in the 2021-2025 period, the 88km-long route has now taken shape and taken on a beautiful appearance. All 60 bridges on the main route have completed their bridge decks and the road has been paved.
Although the central region experienced exceptionally heavy and prolonged rains during the final stages, causing difficulties, the units still made efforts to construct the remaining items to ensure the completion of the project and its inauguration on December 19 according to the schedule assigned by the Prime Minister.
On the route, there are 3 road tunnels with a total length of 4,500m. Currently, tunnels 1 and 2 have completed all work, and are testing the fan system, lighting, loudspeakers, fire prevention and fighting equipment, etc.
As for tunnel No. 3 (3,200m long), the largest-scale tunnel project on the entire North-South expressway in the 2021-2025 period, up to this point, Deo Ca Group has completed the concrete shell construction in both tunnel tubes and is installing equipment in the right tunnel tube.
Mr. Ngo Truong Nam, General Director of Deo Ca Group, said: When completed, this will be the third longest road tunnel in the country after Hai Van and Deo Ca tunnels, demonstrating the construction capacity of Vietnamese enterprises to "overcome mountains and pass passes".
Drawing on experience from many complex tunnel projects, Deo Ca Group has improved and innovated tunneling technology and methods to help shorten the tunneling cycle, thanks to which tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 were 3-5 months ahead of schedule, and tunnel No. 3 was dug 7 months ahead of the contract.
According to Mr. Le Thang, Director of Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Construction), the Prime Minister requested the project to shorten its progress by more than 8 months. As soon as the weather cleared, the investor urged the contractor to mobilize equipment and human resources to speed up construction. The contractor consortium mobilized more than 3,500 personnel (at peak, more than 4,000 people) and 1,100 pieces of equipment, deploying "3 shifts, 4 shifts", to make up for the progress affected before.
“Project Management Board 2 highly appreciates Deo Ca Group and the contractors for their determination, turning all obstacles into motivation, not letting the weather slow down progress, and striving to inaugurate the project on December 19, contributing to the goal of completing 3,000km of expressway nationwide,” Mr. Le Thang emphasized.
When put into operation, the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon route will not only reduce traffic pressure on National Highway 1 but also open a new economic connection axis, fully exploiting the regional development potential and creating growth momentum for the whole country.
At the same time, this is also a "puzzle piece" that helps to unify the entire North-South expressway network in the east from Da Nang through Quang Ngai, from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa, creating a high-speed traffic artery.
According to the assessment of Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, by the end of this year, the whole country will have completed and opened to traffic 3,188km of expressways, plus intersections and junctions (meeting expressway standards), the whole country will have completed more than 3,500km of expressways, higher than the target required by the Prime Minister.
It can be said that this highway system is a solid "launch pad", helping the socio-economy of localities as well as the whole country take off and fly high and far in the new era.
