This morning (September 18th), in Cua Viet town, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province, a whirlwind accompanied by heavy rain swept through, causing damage to many seaside shops and restaurants, with roofs blown off and furniture destroyed, and many trees broken and uprooted.

Immediately after the storm, the people proactively took steps to mitigate the damage and continue disaster prevention efforts.

At storm shelters in Gio Linh and Trieu Phong districts, Quang Tri province, fishermen are urgently anchoring their boats. The Quang Tri Border Guard has dispatched personnel to coastal communes to assist the local people.

The Trieu Van Border Guard Station in Trieu Phong district has deployed officers and soldiers to coordinate with local authorities and organizations to focus on effectively disseminating information, urging boats to anchor in safe places, and assisting people in reinforcing their houses.

By this afternoon (September 18), more than 2,000 boats and ships in Quang Tri province had basically come ashore and anchored safely.

Colonel Le Van Phuong, Commander of the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command, said that Quang Tri province has implemented a ban on sea travel since September 17th, urging all vessels still operating to return to shore. Currently, some provincial vessels operating off the southern coast are contacting their crews to return to shore.

"For vessels currently in the storm's path, we have issued warnings for owners to proactively take precautions and assist people in securing their boats in harbors to ensure the safety of their vessels. At the same time, we are urging fishermen on board to proactively secure their boats and be ready to evacuate people to land when the storm makes landfall," said Colonel Le Van Phuong.
