According to data released by DSCC, the number of display panels produced for the iPhone 15 series is 16% higher than that of the iPhone 14 series in the same period of October. For the base iPhone 15 model alone, the number of screens shipped is 21% higher than that of the iPhone 13 in 2021. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro models account for 71% of the total panels shipped, a 6% increase compared to their predecessors (as of September of their launch year).
The iPhone 15 Pro models are selling better than previous generations.
Samsung Display (SDC) remains Apple's number one screen supplier for iPhones, accounting for 81% of deliveries between June and October to meet the demand for the iPhone 15 series. SDC also held 81% for the iPhone 14 series during the same period and 79% for the iPhone 13 series. Currently, it is also the only manufacturer with a contract to supply screens for all four iPhone models (in each generation) launched consecutively in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
LG Display (LGD) began shipping iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max screens in September and accounted for approximately 18% of the total as of the end of October. BOE, a major Chinese manufacturer, also participated in the list of screen suppliers, but only accounted for 1%.
One of the key details highlighted in the DSCC report is that this year's iPhone 15 Pro models are more popular than ever. DSCC's senior research director, David Naranjo, stated: "The number of display panels for the two iPhone 15 Pro models is outpacing that of the iPhone 14 Pro and 13 Pro models during the period from June to October."
This year, the iPhone 15 Pro has the same price as the iPhone 14 Pro (both priced at $999 for the standard version) at launch. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is $100 more expensive than its predecessor ($1,199 compared to $1,099) due to increasing the minimum storage capacity from 128 GB to 256 GB, resulting in a 5% higher average selling price (ASP) for the iPhone 15 series compared to its predecessor.
