In the early afternoon of June 27th, the Ministry of Education and Training released information regarding the Literature exam questions for the 2024 High School Graduation Examination.
Hanoi candidates were excited after the literature exam.
The Ministry of Education and Training stated that after receiving feedback from several media outlets regarding the Literature exam questions coinciding with some speculations on social media before the exam, the Standing Committee of the National Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam requested the Exam Question Drafting Council to submit a report.
The Ministry of Education and Training affirms that the literature exam questions were designed in accordance with the structure and format announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, with a reasonable distribution between poetry and prose sections.
The reading comprehension section of the exam discusses the creativity and responsibility of the artist, elements that shape the history of human art, which contradicts previous assumptions.

Regarding the social commentary essay (writing section), regardless of the topic, candidates are always required to make connections to real-world situations, express their thoughts, feelings, observations, and responsibilities regarding the issue, ensuring practicality, educational orientation, and the cultivation of character and personality—a goal that many documents and works aim for.
The number of literary works in the current curriculum and the scope of the exam questions are limited. Therefore, correctly guessing the title of the work and author used in the exam is random and possible.

However, whether the exam used the entire work, a part of the work, or a specific part of the work, as well as the requirements (questions) given to candidates, were completely different from what had been previously assumed.

At this point, the National Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Examination has confirmed that the Literature exam questions have been kept completely confidential.
Commenting on the literature exam, Dr. Trinh Thu Tuyet, a literature teacher at the Hocmai education system, said that the structure, types, and levels of understanding in the questions did not offer any surprises, were not difficult, but also did not provide much excitement. The exam's ability to classify students still lies in the classification of reading comprehension and text appreciation levels, a classification recognized by the subtle and accurate assessment of the examiners.
The reading comprehension section (3 points) consists of questions that assess the content of the text, essentially requiring students to "identify" and copy a detail from the excerpt, a requirement that can be done far too easily. Question 3 requires students to apply their knowledge of Vietnamese language, literature, art, and life to interpret the expressive and evocative value of the associative comparison between the flow of the river and the history of artistic creation in the excerpt.
While question number 4 is a high-level application question, requiring candidates to draw a life lesson for themselves from the author's reflection in the excerpt, "If we separate each drop of water from the unity of the ocean, we will only see tiny, solitary drops of water that gradually disappear."
Candidates will have no difficulty finding the message and lesson for their own lives, which is the lesson about meaningful existence when individuals are connected to the community. This question has the potential to differentiate students relatively well, as the answer and reasoning depend heavily on the students' independent thinking and self-reliance.
"Overall, the reading comprehension questions are well-suited to the students' abilities, ensuring they meet the appropriate cognitive levels and have practical relevance to their future lives," said Dr. Trinh Thu Tuyet.
Essay Writing Section (7.0 points): Maintain the familiar structure, consisting of two parts: Writing a social commentary essay (2.0 points) and a literary analysis essay (5.0 points). Question 1 (2.0 points), requiring "Write a paragraph (approximately 200 words) expressing your thoughts on the meaning of respecting individuality," may surprise and pique the interest of candidates during the exam.
"This question may not be new, but it's quite practical and engaging for students who are preparing to enter a new phase of life, where they must demonstrate their abilities and personal qualities, showcasing their unique personalities on their journey to success," - a literature professor assessed.
