The appointment decisions were signed on June 2nd and are valid for 5 years. Prior to this, Professor Tran Ngoc Hai and Dr. Le Van Lam were Vice Rectors of Can Tho University.
From October 1991 to April 2006, Mr. Tran Ngoc Hai was a lecturer in the Faculty of Fisheries at Can Tho University. Subsequently, from June 2012, he served as Deputy Head of the Faculty of Fisheries at Can Tho University; and in April 2021, he was appointed Vice Rector of Can Tho University.
Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai earned his PhD in 2006, specializing in aquaculture and aquatic resource management, from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He was recognized as a professor in 2018 and continues to serve as the Vice Rector of the university.

Dr. Le Van Lam holds a PhD in Computer Science from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. Prior to this, he served as Head of the International Cooperation Department and, since July 2024, has been appointed Vice-Rector of Can Tho University. His main research areas are computer science and information science.

Previously, in July 2025, the Prime Minister issued a decision to transform Can Tho University into Can Tho University. Over 60 years of development, Can Tho University has been organized to provide multi-disciplinary and multi-field training. By 2026, it will offer 127 undergraduate programs, 59 postgraduate programs, and 24 doctoral programs.
The university has a training scale of over 52,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Of these, over 49,000 are undergraduate students, and more than 3,000 are postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.
