Minister Nguyen Manh Hung receives General Director of Global Green Growth Institute

On the morning of April 17, 2025, in Hanoi, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung had a meeting with Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, General Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

At the meeting, Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim emphasized the importance of the low-carbon development initiative - one of the key initiatives initiated by Korea. He said that in the context of climate change becoming a major global challenge, sustainable development can only be achieved through the application of new technologies and the development of green industries.

“We believe that technology will be the key to addressing the challenge of climate change. Korea has made significant achievements in areas such as electric vehicles and sustainable energy thanks to its strong investment in research and development (R&D),” said Sang-Hyup Kim.

Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim proposed to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between GGGI and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam to promote cooperation in specific projects. After 10 years of operation in Vietnam, GGGI has worked with many ministries and branches, but up to now GGGI has not established an official cooperative relationship with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam . GGGI wishes to cooperate closely in the fields of: Application of artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology and renewable energy development.

Agreeing with GGGI's proposals, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung suggested a number of cooperation contents, including organizing seminars on promoting public-private cooperation to implement green development projects in Vietnam, on AI and the impact of this technology on green growth.

The Minister said that Vietnam is currently building an Innovation Hub for green technologies and startups in the field of sustainable development and hopes that GGGI will actively support the formation and development of this ecosystem.

"Vietnam is currently facing the challenge of building a green technology map. We look forward to receiving support from GGGI in building a system to assess the impact of green startups, especially assessing the economic impacts of these initiatives," Minister Nguyen Manh Hung shared.

Also at the meeting, Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim said that GGGI is currently building a global alliance on green growth and wishes to establish a similar alliance between Korea and Vietnam. According to Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim , this idea has received strong support from the Prime Minister of Vietnam with the desire to create a long-term strategic cooperation platform between the two countries during the discussions in Davos.

Closing the meeting, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung and Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim both expressed their determination to promote cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology and GGGI, towards a sustainable future, applying advanced technology and green development, in line with the general trend of the world./.
