Appreciating the role of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in promoting innovation and protecting intellectual property rights globally, Minister Nguyen Van Hung said that Vietnam values ​​copyright and related rights as an important driving force for economic , cultural and social development.

In the process of integration and development, Vietnam has always actively participated in international treaties and is a responsible member of international organizations.

"Of the 7/8 multilateral international treaties on copyright and related rights managed by WIPO that Vietnam has participated in, we have specified the contents of these treaties in the legal system. A typical example is the promulgation of the Law on Intellectual Property, creating an important legal basis to fully implement international commitments.

Thanks to the focus on legislative work, the protection of intellectual property rights, copyrights, and related rights that the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism is managing has achieved many results," said the Minister.

Highly appreciating the cooperation between Vietnam and WIPO, Minister Nguyen Van Hung affirmed that WIPO's attention has contributed to helping Vietnam gradually perfect its institutions in the field of intellectual property. In particular, in the context of increasingly complex intellectual property protection in the digital space, WIPO's experience has supported Vietnam in accessing and implementing management work more effectively.

The Minister emphasized that promoting intellectual property rights not only protects creativity but also contributes to promoting the development of cultural industries in Vietnam. Through WIPO, Vietnam has more opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation with countries and international organizations, enhancing understanding and sharing experiences in this field.

From the practical experience of intellectual property activities in Vietnam, Minister Nguyen Van Hung made some recommendations to General Director Daren Tang:

Firstly, identifying institutional improvement as a breakthrough to unlock resources, Vietnam is continuing to promote institutional improvement, including improving the legal framework in the field of copyright and related rights.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism hopes that WIPO will provide technical support and experts to build a copyright law system according to international standards.

Second, in the context that Vietnam is promoting the development of cultural and entertainment industries, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism hopes that WIPO will share experiences and support on copyrights and authorship to ensure sustainable development for these industries.

Third, maintain regular delegation exchanges to strengthen connections between the two sides, while expanding cooperation with other countries and organizations, contributing to the development of the intellectual property sector not only in Vietnam but globally.

Thanking the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the warm welcome, WIPO Director General Daren Tang congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day. Mr. Daren Tang said that the Declaration of Independence that President Ho Chi Minh read on September 2, 1945 not only has great significance for the Vietnamese people but also strongly inspired many other countries in the world.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang said that Vietnam is a country rich in cultural traditions, potential and creative capacity that has been cultivated over many centuries. Looking at the cultural slices spanning across the three regions of the country, one can see the depth of a thousand-year history and enduring vitality until today.

Daren Tang said that WIPO is not only concerned with issues related to copyright and related rights, but also focuses on legal issues to enhance creative capacity, making practical contributions to cultural development and the overall development of Vietnam.

Appreciating Vietnam's efforts in integrating and fully participating in important international treaties on copyright and related rights, Mr. Daren Tang affirmed that WIPO is ready to cooperate and support Vietnam in policy making, capacity building and implementing initiatives to promote innovation and preserve cultural identity in the digital age.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) (all 193 member states of the United Nations are members of WIPO) is one of 16 specialized agencies of the United Nations, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

WIPO was established to promote innovation and protect intellectual property rights globally through international cooperation. At WIPO, the field of copyright and related rights is under the supervision of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR). Through SCCR meetings, WIPO member states and copyright and related rights management agencies will represent their countries to directly discuss and negotiate the content of multilateral international treaties on copyright and related rights.

The meeting is an important milestone contributing to strengthening the cooperative relationship between the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and WIPO, while opening up many practical cooperation opportunities in the fields of copyright, cultural industry and heritage conservation in the coming period.
