Proud of Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and the women's volleyball team.
It is no coincidence that the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was honored among the top 10 cultural, sports , and tourism events in Vietnam in 2024, and is the only sporting event to receive this honor.
The Vietnamese women's volleyball team brilliantly won the AVC Challenger Asian Championship, securing a ticket to the FIVB Challenger World Championship. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team also made history with a bronze medal at the FIVB Challenger World Championship. Furthermore, their 4th-place finish at the Asian Championship marked a new chapter in Vietnamese women's volleyball history, as they qualified for the World Championship for the first time, featuring 32 of the best teams.
Vietnamese women's volleyball aims to compete on the international stage.
A BUSY YEAR
In 2025, Vietnamese women's volleyball will be busy with the national team competing in many important international tournaments such as the 33rd SEA Games, the World Volleyball Championship (in Thailand), the SEA V.League, and the Asian Championship. In addition, the Vietnamese youth team will participate in the U.21 World Championship.
The success of Vietnamese women's volleyball continues, with the U.20 team ranking 5th in Asia, thus qualifying for the 2025 U.21 World Championship. The success of Vietnamese youth volleyball demonstrates the fundamental and effective investment in developing a new generation of talent. At the club level, Vietnamese women's volleyball also brought pride to the sport, with a club qualifying for the Women's Club World Championship finals for the first time. LPBank Ninh Binh Club finished as runner-up in the Asian Club Championship, subsequently representing Vietnam at the ongoing Club World Championship in Hangzhou, China.
A breakthrough investment is needed.
Having qualified for the 2025 Volleyball World Championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team faces difficult chances of progressing far in this prestigious tournament, or even securing a single victory.
“We must face the reality that the level of Vietnamese women's volleyball is competitive at the continental and Southeast Asian levels. In Southeast Asia, we must find a way to defeat our number one rival, Thailand. As for the World Championship, it's a major competition, and we participate primarily for experience and learning. To compete in a major tournament like the World Championship, Vietnamese volleyball needs a process,” said Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation.
The female volleyball players need more investment.
One of the issues that experts, including the head coach of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, desire is how to have a long-term training camp for the team to prepare well for important international tournaments. However, in the context of Vietnamese sports, especially volleyball, which is not yet operating under a professional model, clubs need players to compete in the national championship and other tournaments, making it difficult to have a long-term national team training camp. “We are striving to build a more professional national championship with the hope that more clubs will invest heavily in volleyball. This will then produce more talents for Vietnamese volleyball. At the national team level, training will be conducted in stages, depending on the coaching staff's proposals, to achieve specific goals,” Mr. Truong said.
Vietnam women's volleyball team
A veteran coach stated that Vietnamese women's volleyball has great potential but needs to be freed up in its approach. For example, clubs need a long-term vision, strong investment, and a goal of competing not only at the national level but also internationally. This would allow Vietnamese athletes to compete against many strong opponents to improve their skills. Talented Vietnamese volleyball players also need opportunities to compete abroad by domestic clubs… At the national team level, if long-term training camps are not feasible, then international training and friendly matches against strong teams should be prioritized to hone and improve their skills.
