Bruno Fernandes equals Ronaldo's prestigious achievement at Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes has been named Sir Matt Busby's Player of the Year after having a hand in 38 goals in 54 games in all competitions.

This is an award voted by fans, when the Man Utd captain performed well as a leader despite the "Red Devils" having a disappointing season.

In 54 appearances in all competitions, Fernandes has scored 19 goals and provided 19 assists, more than any other Man Utd player. He also won The Players' Player of the Year, ahead of runners-up Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire in the vote.

This is the fourth time the Portuguese midfielder has been named Man Utd's player of the year, equaling the record of his two former teammates, goalkeeper David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo.

De Gea is the only goalkeeper at Man Utd to win the Player of the Year award four times (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018). Meanwhile, Ronaldo won it three times in his first year at Old Trafford as well as in the 2021-22 season after his return to the club.

If Fernandes wins another one next season, he will equal De Gea's record of three consecutive Player of the Year awards.

However, the Man Utd captain surprisingly announced that he does not want to win this award next year.

"I hope next year I won't be the one to receive this award. Instead young players like Amad Diallo, Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund should win the award.

If they start scoring, start creating, start running back and tackling, they'll be the ones getting the attention, not me, and I'll be the happiest guy in the world .

I'm here to help my teammates, help them reach their full potential, and that's all I want to do because I know that as soon as I can help them reach their full potential, my team will be much stronger," Fernandes told CBS.
