Hanoi: A teacher who did not teach regularly but still received his full salary at Bui Quang Mai Secondary School was forced to leave the profession and return the 163 million VND he had received.
On the morning of May 27, Mr. Nguyen Kha Dong, Vice Principal of Bui Quang Mai Secondary School, Dong Anh District, said the decision was announced at the closing ceremony of the 2022-2023 school year a few days ago.
In addition to forcing the teacher to quit and requiring him to pay back 163 million VND, Dong Anh district will take disciplinary action against two principals during the time this teacher worked.
Responding to VnExpress at the end of December 2022, Mr. Dong said that about 10 years ago, the English teacher, now 48 years old, suffered from a mental illness. At first, he only asked for a few days off for treatment, but then the disease became more complicated, with many days of seizures in class, so the treatment time was longer, sometimes he could not teach for several months.
According to Mr. Dong, for humanitarian reasons, Bui Quang Mai Secondary School created conditions for the teacher to receive medical treatment, so even though he was absent more than he was in class, the teacher still received his full salary. This teacher has a salary coefficient of 4.3, receiving about 6.5 million VND per month.
After the incident was reported to the authorities, at the end of last year, this teacher wrote a letter of resignation from the profession. Bui Quang Mai Secondary School also stopped paying his salary.

According to regulations, schools are annually allocated a budget to ensure operations, including salaries for teachers.
This budget is managed by the local State Treasury. Every month, schools prepare salary tables, send them to the Treasury for approval, transfer them to the bank, and then transfer them to teachers' accounts.
