To attract customers during the 2025 Lunar New Year, some gardeners in Hung Yen have meticulously shaped old pomelo trees, pressed auspicious characters onto the fruit, and especially molded pots resembling gold ingots. These products are being offered for sale at prices ranging from 160 to 200 million VND.
At this time, in the orchards of Lien Nghia commune (Van Giang district, Hung Yen province), hundreds of giant pomelo trees with unique shapes are being prepared for the Lunar New Year market. To attract customers, many gardeners in Hung Yen have shaped old pomelo trees, planted them in unique pots, and offered them for sale at prices of several hundred million dong. These pomelo trees are handcrafted by gardeners, who then plant and care for them to ensure they are healthy and bear ripe fruit just in time for Tet (Vietnamese New Year). Each tree has approximately 300 fruits, of which 70% are naturally grown and the rest are grafted. These pomelo trees are all very old; when planted in pots, they still thrive and bear fruit every year. Large, beautifully colored fruits will be shaped into the characters for "wealth" and "fortune."
The prices of special plants this year will be lower than last year, so many families and organizations have already placed orders in advance. Although the price of each potted pomelo tree can reach several hundred million dong, with transportation costs alone accounting for more than one-third, because the pots are not only heavy but also require great care to avoid damaging the tree during the moving process. Van Giang district (Hung Yen province) is ready to launch ornamental plants onto the market to serve the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake.
