According to Mr. Ha Van Thanh, Director of the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, after receiving information about the fish kill in the Da Co canal area, the company sent staff to collect the dead fish and treat the environment there and in some nearby lakes.

“Our initial estimate is that the number of dead fish is about 5-7 tons. Currently, company workers are collecting all of these dead fish and cleaning up the environment in the lake area. We expect to finish by tonight. Because of the large number of dead fish scattered around, the cleanup work is taking a long time,” Mr. Thanh said.

According to Mr. Thanh, the cause of the mass fish deaths has been identified as the early season rains, which caused a sudden change in the water environment.
Previously, after the first rain of the season on September 10th, residents living on Chơn Tâm 6 street near the Đa Cô canal discovered many dead fish floating on the surface, causing an unpleasant odor.

"After the rain, the fish started dying and floating on the surface. By yesterday and today, the canal was covered with dead fish, emitting a foul odor. We have called the relevant authorities many times, but no one has come yet," said Ms. Ngo Thi Hong Thanh, a resident of Chon Tam 6 Street.

According to our reporter's observations, on the evening of September 13th, dozens of workers were using small boats to retrieve the dead fish. The dead fish were mostly tilapia, each weighing approximately 0.3 to 0.5 kg.

The Da Co Canal frequently experiences fish deaths accompanied by a strong, foul odor, especially after heavy rains. The stench causes immense suffering for the residents living nearby.
