Many destinations such as Ha Giang, Sa Pa, and Da Nang recorded room occupancy rates of 80-90% and are expected to be fully booked on the occasion of the April 30 holiday, showing a strong recovery of domestic tourism .
Data from Mustgo - a booking platform with more than 2,000 hotel partners nationwide - shows that Sa Pa is the most popular destination in the northern region. 3-star hotels have reached room occupancy rates of about 80%. Meanwhile, 4-star hotels are almost full with 85-90% occupancy, with only a few rooms left on April 30, and almost all rooms are sold out during May 1-2. For the 5-star segment, room occupancy rates reached about 80% for April 30, May 1 and May 2, while there are still very few rooms left on May 3.
Many bus companies specializing in the Hanoi - Lao Cai route such as Interbus Lines or Sao Viet also announced that they had sold out all tickets scheduled for April 30 and May 2, and had to increase the number of trips by 30%. Most bus companies did not increase prices, and even reduced prices by 10% to stimulate tourism.
Ha Giang is also predicted to be a top destination in the north because of the large number of motorbike tourists. Ms. Bui Thi Thu Hue, owner of Lam Tung Hotel in Dong Van, said that three establishments with a total of 45 rooms are fully booked until the end of the holiday. The demand from guests is still there, but the number of rooms in the center of Dong Van is almost full. Ms. Hue asked a number of other accommodation establishments to find rooms for guests but also had difficulty because most were fully booked a month in advance.
Destinations near major cities remain a trend amid rising airfares during the holiday season. A representative of Flamingo Holdings said their resorts in Dai Lai, Cat Ba and Hai Tien were all fully booked during the holiday.
Meanwhile, Mustgo recorded room occupancy rates in Quang Ninh reaching 80% depending on the segment; most 3-4 star hotels were fully booked on May 1. The Ha Long Carnival event taking place on May 1 with many attractive activities attracted many visitors to the city on this occasion.
Da Nang - a traditional destination for Vietnamese tourists - continues to maintain its appeal when the occupancy rate of international 5-star hotels, located on the beach, reaches 90%. Local 4-5 star hotels located on the beach also reach 95% occupancy. The number of reservations in the city center hotels is lower, about 70-80% depending on the location.
Most beachfront resorts near Hoi An ancient town are at 70% occupancy, especially those that specialize in domestic tourists. As it is the end of the international tourist season, resorts that favor the European inbound market have recorded occupancy rates 10-15% lower. In the center of the ancient town, most accommodations are at 60% occupancy and do not apply holiday surcharges.
Other central tourist destinations such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh also recorded positive room bookings for accommodation facilities near the sea. Hotels in the city center usually only reach 40-50% capacity. In Quang Binh alone, newly opened 5-star hotels were almost "sold out" from April 30 to May 2, with very few rooms left for May 3.
In the southern region, Phu Quoc is considered by Mustgo to be a bright spot for the holiday. In the 5-star segment in the North Island, the average occupancy rate is about 70%, with Sol by Melia Phu Quoc alone reaching over 80%. Large-scale hotels such as Wyndham recorded an occupancy rate of 40%. The 4-star segment and accommodation facilities in the central area reached about 85%. In the southern region, accommodation facilities reached an occupancy rate of 70%, of which Premier Residences has stopped accepting reservations for April 30 and May 1. Many villas have stopped booking for some peak days such as April 30, May 1, and May 2.
The majority of visitors are still inbound, but the proportion of domestic visitors has increased significantly compared to the same period in 2024. Notably, most products have removed surcharges during the April 30-May 1 holiday period, creating favorable conditions for tourists.
According to Mr. Tran Quoc Hung, Head of Mustgo Product Development, the trend of last-minute bookings is clearly increasing at tourist destinations that are easy to travel by road such as Da Lat and Vung Tau. Currently, 3-5 star accommodations in Da Lat are only 60-70% occupied but are expected to be sold out quickly as the date approaches.
Similarly in Vung Tau, room occupancy is currently at 60-70% but road visitors from southern provinces will increase rapidly on April 30 and May 1. A number of visitors also switch to Ho Tram, causing many resorts to reach 80-90% occupancy, while The Grand Ho Tram has very few rooms left.
Other notable destinations such as Nha Trang, Quy Nhon or Phan Thiet are all recording good bookings, around 70-80% depending on the segment. In Quy Nhon alone, many 4-5 star hotels have stopped accepting guests from April 30 to May 2. Most of the guests coming to Quy Nhon for the April 30 holiday are domestic guests, so hotels have proactively removed surcharges to support them in the context of still high airfares.
"The tourism market during the April 30 holiday has recovered strongly with many positive signals from both domestic and international visitors," Mr. Hung commented, saying that travel companies and tourism service providers have all prepared well in terms of products and surcharge policies, thereby heating up the market during the peak period.
