One afternoon after work, the sounds of hoeing and the laughter of militia officers and soldiers echoed from behind the kitchen. Some were tilling the soil, others watering, and still others removing pests from the vegetables. The sun-tanned hands of the militia soldiers nimbly tended to each row of tender green cabbage. Comrade Tran Hoai Phong, the permanent militia squad leader, shared while carrying water to water the vegetables: “The first few days of land reclamation were very difficult because the soil was hard and weeds grew abundantly. The team took advantage of their breaks and days off to hoe the soil, make raised beds, and fertilize. Seeing the vegetable garden thriving and having fresh vegetables in our daily meals, everyone is excited.”

The permanent militia force of the Hung My Commune Military Command is stepping up agricultural production to ensure a local supply of fresh vegetables.

Driven by the spirit of "self-reliance and self-improvement," the Military Command of Hung My commune proactively replanned the vacant land within its premises to develop a model for agricultural production. Following the principle of "seasonal produce," the unit organizes intercropping and staggered planting of various vegetables and root crops such as green cabbage, regular cabbage, gourds, and watermelons, ensuring a year-round supply of clean food. This model not only contributes to improving the soldiers' living conditions but also creates a green, clean, and beautiful landscape for the barracks. The neatly arranged rows of vegetables and the trellises laden with gourds have become a familiar sight, reflecting the diligence and perseverance of the local armed forces. Mr. Le Thanh Phong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung My commune, commented: "The local Party committee and government acknowledge and highly appreciate the proactive and creative spirit of the Military Command of the commune. Utilizing vacant land for agricultural production not only helps the unit become self-sufficient in green vegetables and improves the health of the soldiers but also serves as an effective model for other organizations to learn from and replicate."

The trellis laden with gourds is the result of a long process of diligent soil improvement and careful cultivation by militia soldiers of the Hung My Commune Military Command, Ca Mau Provincial Military Command.

The militia soldier's smile is truly radiant as he enjoys the fruits of his labor.

From barren land to lush green vegetable gardens, it's a process of collective effort and unity among the officers and soldiers of the Hung My Commune Military Command. This model, though simple, is practical and meaningful, contributing to improving the quality of life for soldiers, building a regular barracks, and spreading the spirit of decisive victory within the local armed forces.
