Residents of U Minh commune received free medical check-ups, medication, and gifts at the National Border Guard Day event.
Staying close to the people, building a people-based border defense system.
In the coastal communes and wards of the province, the people's security network is built upon the foundations of safe fishing boat groups and coastal communities. The proactive and vigilant approach of fishermen in detecting and reporting smuggling, commercial fraud, or foreign vessels encroaching on territorial waters has enabled authorities to take timely action at the grassroots level.
Along with the task of managing and protecting the border, the Provincial Border Guard Command continues to do a good job in building and consolidating the grassroots political system; promoting its role in building the Party and local government. Many models and movements have been implemented flexibly, linking the task of protecting sovereignty with socio-economic development and caring for the people's lives.
In the programs "Springtime at the Border Guard: Warming the Hearts of Local People," "Springtime in the Border and Islands - A Tet of Deep Affection Between the Military and the People," and "National Border Guard Day" in 2026, the Provincial Border Guard Command mobilized over 3.6 billion VND to provide Tet gifts, scholarships, and housing support for poor households, families of policy beneficiaries, and disadvantaged people in coastal border areas.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Le and her husband (Cong Da hamlet, Phu Tan commune) are happy to receive support to build a sturdy house at the age of 60.
To date, the province has nominated 21 Party members from border guard posts to participate in the Party Committees of coastal border communes and wards for the 2025-2030 term; and 20 Border Guard officers have run for and been elected as delegates to the Provincial People's Council and the People's Councils of communes and wards for the 2026-2031 term. This shows that the trust of the Party committees, the government, and the people in the border guard force is increasingly strengthened.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuong, captain of the CM-9996 purchasing vessel from Song Doc commune, shared: “The Border Guard regularly guides and supports fishermen to feel secure in staying at sea and practicing their profession in accordance with regulations. Therefore, we fishermen are always conscious of complying with the law when operating at sea.”
Besides maintaining peace on the border, the Border Guard Force also serves as a pillar of social welfare. Captain Nguyen Thanh Duy, Deputy Political Officer of Cai Doi Vam Border Guard Station, said that the unit always coordinates with local authorities to mobilize resources to build houses for disadvantaged people, helping them stabilize their lives.
Officers from the Cai Doi Vam Border Guard Post replace the national flag on fishing boats of fishermen heading out to sea.
In Cong Da hamlet, Phu Tan commune, the new house of Mr. Tran Van Doan and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Le is nearing completion thanks to support from the Cai Doi Vam Border Guard Station and the Fatherland Front Committee of the commune. Previously, the family lived in a dilapidated house, enduring difficult living conditions for many years.
"Thanks to the local authorities and the Border Guard, my husband and I now have a sturdy house in our old age, and we are very happy," said Mrs. Nguyen Thi Le emotionally.
Implementing a two-tiered local government model places new demands on the Border Guard Force in streamlining its organizational structure while still ensuring effective management and protection of maritime border sovereignty and security. With the motto of being close to the people, understanding their needs, and relying on them to build and protect the border, the Ca Mau Provincial Border Guard Force, together with the people, is cultivating an increasingly solid "people's support" in the southernmost part of the country.
