During those turbulent times, An Trach commune had many families who sheltered cadres and bravely and steadfastly resisted enemy detection. In particular, many families sacrificed themselves for the greater good, such as: the families of Mrs. Truong Thi Thao, Tran Thi Cuc, Duong Van Binh, Huynh Van Hue, Nguyen Van Cu, Le Thi Cha, Le Van Lung, and Mrs. Tam Manh in Hoang Minh hamlet; the family of Mr. Le Van Thanh in Quyet Chien hamlet; the family of Mr. Le Van Tan, Mrs. Ba Suu, and Mrs. Sau Tuong in Hiep Vinh hamlet; and dozens of other exemplary families who sheltered cadres.
...to the homeland rich in revolutionary traditions
According to historical records, during the resistance war, An Trạch commune had mangrove forests such as Nhà Nước Canal, Huyện Tịnh Canal, Hang Mai, Rạch Bần, and many interconnected mangrove forests like Giáo Hoan and 3 Tĩnh. The forests connected Đầm Dơi and Năm Căn districts, therefore An Trạch was considered a continuous base area between Cà Mau and Năm Căn.
This is also the birthplace and childhood home of many leaders of the revolutionary movement during the resistance war, such as: General Lam Van The, alias Ba Huong, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (5th term, 1981-1985), former Deputy Minister of the Interior , and Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Public Security Department; Lieutenant General Huynh Tien Phong (Ba Tien Phong), former Commander of Military Region 9 (from 2000-2007).
Mr. Ba Tien Phong was born and raised in Quyet Chien hamlet. He had a revolutionary consciousness from a very young age and actively participated in revolutionary activities, taking part in many battles against the enemy in various locations in his hometown of An Trach and the former Gia Rai district. He was recognized at the 1965 Ca Mau Provincial Emulation Congress for his achievement of single-handedly attacking an enemy outpost.
Leaders of An Trach commune visited and presented gifts to families who had sheltered cadres during the resistance war.
An Trạch is also associated with the name of Comrade Phan Ngọc Sến (Mười Kỷ), a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (4th term, 1976-1980). In 1963, he was appointed as a Regional Party Committee member, in charge of the Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee. During this time, he stayed at the house of Mrs. Võ Thị Hạc in Cái Keo hamlet, An Trạch commune, to conduct military and political training classes for cadres and guerrillas in the hamlets and communes.
With a strong revolutionary base and movement during the resistance war, An Trạch was the site of particularly important events. The areas from Gành Hào canal to Chòi Mòi hamlet (in 1963, belonging to An Trạch commune, former Giá Rai district), Chim Ðẻ forest, and Nước Mặn canal (Tân Thuận - Ðầm Dơi) served as the T3 base of the 9th Military Region Command during the anti-American war for national liberation.
Mr. Ta Ngoc Dien (57 years old, Anh Dung hamlet) said: “Previously, the area around my family's residence was surrounded by enemy outposts, but revolutionary cadres still held their ground and continued their activities. People of all ages, genders, with deep hatred for the enemy, rose up together to fight and drive out the foreign invaders until the day the country achieved independence.”
Building upon the glorious revolutionary traditions of the war and thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, the material and spiritual lives of the people are increasingly developing and improving. Families of those who rendered meritorious services to the revolution are deeply touched by the concern of the Party and the State, and the gratitude and appreciation of the entire society.
After more than 50 years since liberation, the revolutionary countryside has undergone a dramatic transformation, from hardship to modern new rural areas. On the land of fire from the past, a new face is shining brightly with pride. A solid infrastructure system, improved living standards, and convenient trade connections are all in place.
Bridges and roads in An Trach commune today.
The people of the revolutionary base areas are carrying on the flame of tradition day by day, constantly striving to build a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.
