Since the beginning of the pandemic, Vietnam has recorded 11,592,604 cases of Covid-19, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories. In terms of the number of cases per million people, Vietnam ranks 120th out of 231 countries and territories (an average of 117,152 cases per million people).

Data reported daily by provincial and city health departments on the Covid-19 management system of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, shows that on May 15th, 242 patients were declared recovered, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 10,632,576.

From mid-April 2023 to the present, Vietnam has recorded a number of deaths due to Covid-19. Upon reviewing and analyzing these cases, experts have found that most of the deceased were high-risk patients, those with underlying conditions, the elderly, or those with multiple comorbidities, and who already had a severe condition beforehand; no deaths were recorded in patients without underlying conditions.

On May 14th, 11,406 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered. Thus, the total number of vaccine doses administered is 266,334,801; of which, 223,690,523 doses were given to people aged 18 and over: 70,908,838 doses were the first dose; 68,453,226 doses were the second dose; 14,343,927 doses were booster doses; 52,121,680 doses were the first booster dose; and 17,862,852 doses were the second booster dose.

In addition, 23,965,543 doses were administered to children aged 12-17: 9,130,889 doses for the first dose; 9,021,366 doses for the second dose; and 5,813,288 doses for the first booster dose. For children aged 5-11, 18,678,735 doses were administered: 10,220,643 doses for the first dose; and 8,458,092 doses for the second dose.

Given the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in Vietnam, which continues to reach around 2,000 per day, Associate Professor Dr. Duong Thi Hong, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, advises high-risk groups such as those with underlying conditions or weakened immune systems to proactively register for booster shots of Covid-19 vaccines as recommended. Even those who have already contracted Covid-19 should continue to receive booster shots as directed by the World Health Organization. Simultaneously, it is crucial to maintain the 2K protocol, vaccines, treatments, technology, and public awareness in the long-term prevention and control of Covid-19.
