Mr. Nguyen Huu Nho, owner of a coconut shop on Pham Van Chieu Street (Go Vap District), said that at the beginning of 2025, the price of coconut imported to the shop was 11,000 VND/fruit; by the end of March, the price of imported coconuts had increased to 13,000 VND/fruit. After calculating transportation costs, his shop sells for 16,000 VND/fruit, making a profit of only about 1,000 - 1,500 VND/fruit.
Similarly, Ms. Ho Thi Ha, owner of a fruit store on Le Van Khuong Street (District 12), said that the amount of imported goods has decreased by 30% compared to 2024, due to prolonged heat and limited supply from gardens in the Southwest region. Special types of coconut such as pineapple coconut, priced at VND20,000/fruit, are currently out of stock. This level has increased by 100% compared to mid-2024.
According to Mr. Cao Ba Dang Khoa, General Secretary of the Vietnam Coconut Association, the price of fresh coconuts has increased by 110% compared to the same period last year, while the price of dried coconuts has increased by 150%. This year is a year in which the price of this item has fluctuated strongly since the beginning of the year. Importers from China, Malaysia, and Thailand are actively buying Vietnamese coconuts, creating fierce competition. In particular, when the US and China opened their doors to this product, many investors from other countries are also interested. Facing this trend, in Ben Tre province, the area of green coconut cultivation is being expanded, aiming to build a sustainable coconut value chain.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T Company, a leading fruit exporter in Vietnam, said that since China signed the protocol for coconut exports, the demand of this market has increased sharply. Each month, Vina T&T Company exports about 30 containers of this product to China.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ben Tre province, at present, coconut is in the off-season, so output has decreased by about 50%. In addition, at this time, coconut processing companies have many export orders, especially from the US and European markets, so they are in great need of raw coconut. In addition, the prices of by-products such as coconut water, coconut shells, coconut fiber, etc. have also increased, contributing to the high price of raw materials.
To date, Ben Tre province has had more than 133 coconut growing areas granted codes and 14 enterprises granted packaging codes for export to China. The total coconut growing area of the province is currently about 80,000 hectares, with an output of nearly 700,000 tons per year. Of which, nearly 80% of the area is dry coconut, the drinking type accounts for more than 20% (about 16,000 hectares). Coconut trees are also the main source of livelihood for farmers in Ben Tre province.
