How to use Google Maps without Internet

VTC NewsVTC News25/10/2024

To address this issue, Google Maps developed an offline feature, allowing users to easily access maps without an internet connection. To use the map in this way, you can follow these steps:

1. Download offline maps

- Open the Google Maps app

Make sure you're using the latest version of Google Maps on your mobile phone. You can check and update the app on the Google Play Store or App Store.

- Search for locations

Use the search bar to find a place or area you are about to go to or plan to visit.

- Download the map

After you've searched for a location, select the "download map offline" option from the settings menu, or tap the location name and then select "download offline". You can choose the map area you want to download and store on your device.

- Confirm and wait for completion

Confirm the download and wait until it's complete. Download times may vary depending on the size of the map area and your internet connection speed during the download.

2. Use offline maps.

After downloading the maps, you can use them even without an internet connection. Map browsing and navigation features will still work normally; however, some features such as live traffic updates and specific location searches may not be available offline.

Find the way

Even without an internet connection, you can still find your way using downloaded map data. Open the app, enter your starting and destination points, and then select "Get directions." Google Maps will use offline data to guide you.

Navigation

Navigation will still work even after you've downloaded offline maps. However, you need to ensure your device's GPS is active to determine your current location.

3. Offline map data management

Update the map.

Offline map data doesn't update automatically, so you should check and update it regularly, especially if the areas you frequently use have changed significantly. You can do this by going to Google Maps settings and selecting "Offline areas," then selecting "Update maps."

Remove unnecessary maps.

If your device has limited storage, delete unnecessary offline maps. Go to the “Offline Areas” section, select the map you want to delete, and tap “Delete”.
