Need 300 million VND to repair suspension bridge in Ward 8

The suspension bridge in Ward 8 (Bac Lieu City) across the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau canal is seriously damaged, posing a potential risk to traffic safety - (photo).

The bridge was built before 2007. After many years of use, the bridge's floor surface has rotted in many places, with many holes. The asphalt concrete layer on the bridge's surface has been extruded, creating an uneven condition. The zinc wire in some places has rusted and gaps have appeared. Whenever there are many people and vehicles passing by, the bridge shows signs of shaking.

To ensure the safety of people passing by, local authorities have installed warnings about narrow bridges, steep slopes, slippery bridge surfaces, and prohibiting gatherings on the bridge.

Since October 2024, in Official Dispatch 8604, the People's Committee of Bac Lieu City has assigned the People's Committee of Ward 8 to be the investor to repair this suspension bridge. At that time, the City's Urban Management Department (now the Department of Economics, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs) has estimated the cost of replacing all steel plates on the bridge deck with 6mm thick corrugated steel plates, reinforcing some damaged longitudinal and transverse beams at about 300 million VND. Up to now, the city has not been able to arrange this source of capital.

While waiting for the province to build Bac Lieu 5 bridge, located at the end of Tran Huynh street (in Ward 3 and Ward 8), Bac Lieu City People's Committee needs to soon balance the budget and arrange funds to repair Ward 8 suspension bridge so that people can travel conveniently and safely in the context of the coming rainy season.
