In an increasingly polluted environment, for traffic participants, sunglasses help prevent dust and harmful effects from sunlight. Currently on the market, sunglasses have many diverse designs and materials, from famous branded products to popular types. In addition to stores specializing in selling eyeglasses, along national and provincial highways, we can easily come across stalls selling eye-catching fashion sunglasses, with famous brands such as: Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Rayban... with very different prices.

At sidewalk and roadside sunglasses stores and even on social networking sites, sunglasses are priced from only 15,000 - 50,000 VND/pair, the highest is over 200,000 VND/pair. In addition, the product line of children's sunglasses is equally diverse, with colorful frames, lenses of various shades, cartoon character stickers, priced from 30,000 - 90,000 VND/pair. With attractive prices, many places also hang promotional signs, 50 - 70% off the product value.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy (Chau Thanh district) said: “Sunglasses are indispensable to protect the eyes. I think this is a type of glasses without a degree, does not affect the regulation of the eyes much, so you can buy it anywhere, as long as it is convenient and cheap, instead of going to a store or clinic”. Mr. Le Van Sang (Chau Doc city) works as a "xe om" (motorbike taxi) and often has to use sunglasses, said: “I often buy sunglasses at street stalls. Cheap sunglasses are easily damaged, cannot find replacement parts, can only be used a few times and then thrown away. You get what you pay for”.

Besides traditional sales, many people also take advantage of the Internet to sell online, with many offers to attract customers, such as: "Genuine goods", "wholesale retail prices", "cheapest genuine goods", "shocking discounts", "branded goods at the lowest prices"...

Ms. Tran Thi My Ngoc (Long Xuyen City) shared: “I often go online to order sunglasses because it doesn’t take much time and there are many beautiful designs to choose from. Most importantly, the price is cheaper than in stores. Every time I buy sunglasses, I order a few pairs to use and change them often.”

Cheap sunglasses for sale on social media

It is worth mentioning that most of these cheap glasses are mass-produced, sometimes hand-made from cheap materials, such as: scrap steel, recycled plastic... The lenses are just colorful pieces of scrap plastic, not guaranteed quality.

Users often feel dizzy, have headaches, and have blurred vision. Some people are allergic to the frames, have red skin, rashes, and blisters between the contact area of the glasses and the skin. If you regularly use poor quality sunglasses of unknown origin, it will be dangerous and lead to the risk of eye diseases.

Mr. Tran Van Chung (Phu Tan district) said: “Last year, because I had to work far away and the road was very dusty, I stopped by the side of the road to buy a pair of dust-proof sunglasses for 50,000 VND. However, after using them for half a month, my eyes felt tired, the images were often blurred, and some days my eyes even kept watering.”

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Kieu (Long Xuyen City) shared: “Seeing cheap sunglasses online, I bought a pair. Wearing them for the first 2-3 days was normal. A few days later, I noticed unusual symptoms in my eyes, such as: sore, itchy and red eyes, and blurred vision compared to before. When I went to the doctor, he said that because I was wearing glasses that were not of guaranteed quality, my myopia in both eyes increased.”

According to experts, glasses are a factor that greatly affects the eyes. Cheap glasses that are not of good quality, glasses with a structure that is more concave than the standard requirements will cause image distortion. When worn regularly, the eyes must self-regulate to adapt to the image distortion caused by glasses, leading to reduced vision and visual disturbances.

In addition, some parents often buy cheap sunglasses for their children to wear when going out. This is an action that unintentionally damages the child's eyes, because the child's eyes are not fully developed. Children with refractive errors in the eyes, wearing sunglasses that are not of guaranteed quality will directly affect and have more serious consequences.

Therefore, to ensure healthy eyes, each individual needs to know how to protect themselves. When buying glasses, you should go to a reputable store with an eye test machine and a long-term product warranty. In particular, say no to sunglasses that do not guarantee quality, to avoid "losing money and getting sick".
