According to estimates, by the end of 2025, the volume of goods handled through the Hai Phong seaport area will reach 115 million tons, exceeding the plan by 3 million tons.
Impressive achievement
In 2025, Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Port (TC-HICT) will continue to play a strategic role as a gateway for import and export in the northern region, helping Vietnamese goods connect directly with the Americas and Europe, contributing to reducing logistics costs and enhancing national competitiveness.
Lieutenant Colonel Doan Hai Tuan, Chairman of the Board of Members of TC-HICT, excitedly announced that on October 17th, TC-HICT welcomed its one millionth TEU container throughput in 2025. This marks the fourth consecutive year that TC-HICT has reached the milestone of one million TEU containers handled. Reaching this milestone early demonstrates TC-HICT's ability to overcome difficulties and challenges, its superior operational capacity, and its continuously improving service quality.

Despite being the youngest port in the Lach Huyen port area, Hai Phong International Port TIL - HTIT (under Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company) has made a significant impact by successfully welcoming the MSC KALINA container ship of MSC Shipping. This ship, measuring 366.06 meters in length and with a deadweight tonnage of 162,867 DWT, demonstrates the prestige and operational capacity of HTIT port, as well as its infrastructure, which is well-equipped to handle super container ships at Hai Phong seaport.
Along with the bustling activity of the Lach Huyen port area, the ports in the Nam Dinh Vu, Dinh Vu, and Cam River areas maintain their growth and development momentum. A representative from the Tan Vu Port Branch – one of the key handling units of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company – stated that the unit is "racing against time" to strive for handling 1 million TEU of cargo in 2025. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Tan Vu Port has achieved this impressive feat.
To enhance its competitiveness, Nam Dinh Vu Port (part of Gemadept Group) recently successfully welcomed its first vessel to berth No. 7, officially launching phase 3 of the Nam Dinh Vu port complex. The commissioning of phase 3 will add approximately 650,000 TEU/year to Nam Dinh Vu Port's capacity, bringing its total operating capacity to over 2 million TEU/year. With a 1.5 km long berth, Nam Dinh Vu Port can simultaneously accommodate 7 feeder vessels.
Expectations for a new "boost"

According to Bui Nguyen Khoi, Director of the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, although 2025 will be a year of significant fluctuations in the global shipping market due to the impact of US tariff policies, Hai Phong's port operations will overcome difficulties and remain vibrant and bustling. By the end of October 2025, the total volume of goods handled through the Hai Phong port area reached nearly 95 million tons, an increase of over 10% compared to the same period in 2024.
Forecasts indicate a bustling import and export activity in the final months of the year, with increased cargo throughput at the seaports reaching an estimated 115 million tons, a 3 million ton increase compared to the planned target. This result provides a crucial basis for the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority to set very ambitious goals for 2026.
To increase competitiveness, capacity, and operational efficiency, and to accommodate more large vessels, the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, in coordination with the Vietnam Maritime Safety Authority, maritime pilots, and specialized agencies at the seaport, is implementing a "one-stop shop" mechanism for handling administrative procedures.
With the goal of reducing three aspects – procedures, time, and costs for ship owners – the units will promote the application of information technology in management, operation, and operational activities; effectively implementing software such as: maritime procedures, electronic receipts, ship tracking, mooring arrangement, monitoring of pilot and tugboat operations, etc.

Regarding transportation infrastructure, the road behind berths 3 to 6 (Lach Huyen port area) is being urgently constructed. It is expected that by December, the first 880 meters of the road (up to the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port gate) will be paved with asphalt. This will alleviate traffic congestion at the HTIT and HHIT ports, allowing for convenient and safe access for vehicles loading and unloading goods.
At the meeting of the Steering Committee for the Development of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks in the city held on the morning of November 7th, Comrade Le Tien Chau, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Head of the Hai Phong National Assembly Delegation, requested the Steering Committee, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, and relevant departments and agencies to urgently complete the procedures to commence construction of the Nam Do Son port and logistics center in December 2025. Along with that, he urged accelerating investment in the Tien Lang seaport and logistics center project.
With continued investment in port infrastructure and expansion into the open sea, Hai Phong is increasingly asserting its role as a logistics gateway for Southeast Asia, capable of competing with ports in Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea.
