| In the first few months of this year, import and export activities in Thai Nguyen province continued to record positive results. The impressive growth figures reflect the dynamism of the industrial production sector and FDI enterprises. |
Foreign direct investment (FDI) continues to be the driving force behind import and export activities.
In the first five months of 2026, the total import and export turnover in Thai Nguyen province reached over 24.3 billion USD, an increase of over 24% compared to the same period last year. Of this, exports reached 14.33 billion USD and imports reached nearly 10 billion USD.
The electronics and high-tech components sector continues to play a leading role, contributing significantly to the province's export growth. The textile and garment industry and supporting industries have also recovered positively as import demand from major markets such as the United States, Europe, and Northeast Asia has increased again.
In key industrial zones such as Yen Binh, Song Cong, and Diem Thuy, many FDI enterprises maintain stable production while expanding their production lines to meet the increased demand for orders during the second and third quarters of the international consumption cycle. Notably, the high volume of imported machinery and equipment indicates a vibrant wave of new investments and production expansion taking place in the province.
Many large enterprises, whose import and export activities account for a high proportion of the total budget revenue in 2026, recorded strong growth compared to the previous year. A prime example is Nui Phao Tungsten Refining Company Limited (HCStarck), which increased its imports of raw materials and supplies for mineral processing.

Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen Co., Ltd. - Ho Chi Minh City Branch is stepping up imports of phones, tablets, and watches from export processing enterprises for domestic consumption.
STC Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. increased imports of machinery, equipment, and electronic components; THAGACO International Investment Joint Stock Company expanded imports of machinery and raw materials for the production of export garments.
Through efforts to encourage and support businesses in carrying out customs declarations locally, many businesses that previously filed declarations at border customs offices have switched to carrying out procedures and paying taxes in Thai Nguyen.
For example, Green European Plastic Co., Ltd. declares the import of raw materials and supplies for plastic pellet production at Thai Nguyen Customs, contributing to increased budget revenue and improved state management efficiency in the area.
Mr. Park Wan Soo, Deputy General Director of Hyundai Aluminum Vina Joint Stock Company (Diem Thuy Industrial Park), said: "Recently, investment, customs, and production expansion procedures have been resolved faster than before. Businesses can directly communicate with the authorities when difficulties arise and receive timely support. This helps save time and costs, and creates more confidence for businesses to continue expanding their investments..."

Administrative reforms provide impetus for businesses.
According to the assessment of Thai Nguyen Customs, the growth in import and export in recent times has stemmed from several contributing factors, most notably the province's focus on attracting investment.
From the beginning of 2026, the province organized an investment promotion conference with the theme "Thai Nguyen - A focal point for connection and prosperity creation," approving the policy for many large-scale projects, opening up new growth opportunities for industry and exports.
The monthly "Morning Tea with Businesspeople" program is becoming an open and effective channel for dialogue between provincial leaders and the business community. Many difficulties and requests are resolved immediately at the meeting or have specific plans for resolution, thereby strengthening the confidence of investors.
A notable highlight is the implementation of the "24-hour Green Lane" and "60% Green Lane" mechanisms in Thai Nguyen province for administrative procedures in the investment sector. As a result, the processing time for many procedures has been significantly shortened, investment and licensing documents have been streamlined, creating favorable conditions for businesses to expand production.

Alongside improvements in the investment environment, there has been significant progress in customs procedure reform. In the first five months of this year, Thai Nguyen Customs has assisted over 460 businesses in completing customs clearance procedures. Notably, 100% of green channel declarations are automatically processed by the VNACCS/VCIS system within just 1-3 minutes.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Chinh, Team Leader of Thai Nguyen Customs, said: The Customs sector identifies businesses as partners. Therefore, the unit focuses on promoting digital transformation and modernizing operational processes to create maximum convenience for import and export activities. Many procedures are now carried out entirely electronically, helping businesses shorten customs clearance time, reduce logistics costs, and enhance competitiveness.
Thai Nguyen Customs also proactively supports businesses right from the investment research stage. Numerous business dialogue conferences and customs law consultation programs are regularly organized, helping businesses quickly access new policies.
Alongside the growth in import and export, budget revenue from customs activities in the province has also recorded an impressive increase. In 2026, Thai Nguyen Customs was assigned a budget revenue target of 2,900 billion VND by the Ministry of Finance , the Provincial People's Council, and the Customs Sub-Department of Region V, an increase of 7.4% compared to the target set for 2025. The unit aims to achieve a revenue of 3,250 billion VND.
To date, state budget revenue from import and export activities in the area has reached approximately 1,220 billion VND, equivalent to 42.09% of the mandated target and an increase of 138.5% compared to the same period in 2025.
It is projected that by the end of June, revenue could reach approximately 1,700 billion VND, equivalent to 58.62% of the annual plan. This result reflects the strong recovery of production and import-export activities, along with the effectiveness of efforts to attract businesses to open customs declarations and pay taxes in Thai Nguyen...

Affirming its position as a center for export industries.
The accelerated application of digital transformation in business operations is yielding clear results. The electronic customs clearance system, the national single window mechanism, and numerous digital platforms have been implemented synchronously, helping to shorten processing times and ensure a smooth supply chain, especially for key export product groups such as telephones, electronic components, tablets, textiles, and supporting industrial products.
The logistics sector in the province has also experienced strong growth thanks to the increasing demand for goods transportation. The convenient transportation system connecting to Hanoi, Hai Phong port, and Noi Bai airport creates a significant competitive advantage for Thai Nguyen in the northern regional supply chain.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Branch Manager of JDL VN Company Limited in Thai Nguyen (operating in the logistics sector in Yen Binh Industrial Park), commented: Strong export growth has led to increased demand for components, logistics services, and supporting industries.
This is an opportunity for domestic businesses to participate more deeply in the supply chains of large corporations, while also opening up more markets and stable orders for local businesses.

Thai Nguyen's investment attraction quality is clearly improving. The province is steadfast in its "three no's" approach to investment attraction: no sacrificing the environment for growth, no accepting outdated and cheap technology, and no selecting investors lacking financial and management capacity. This is a crucial foundation for the province's sustainable development and deeper participation in global supply chains.
The consistently high export figures, placing Thai Nguyen among the top in the country, demonstrate the improving production capacity, investment attractiveness, and quality of economic management in the region. From a midland locality, Thai Nguyen is gradually asserting its role as a dynamic high-tech industrial and import-export center in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.
It is projected that by the end of June this year, the province's total import and export turnover will reach nearly 28.8 billion USD. These positive growth figures are clear evidence of the effectiveness of administrative reform, digital transformation, and an increasingly open and transparent investment environment.
Competition to attract investment among localities is increasingly fierce, but Thai Nguyen still demonstrates the right direction by persistently prioritizing administrative reform, supporting businesses, and sustainable development as its foundation. This will continue to be an important driving force for the province to maintain its import-export growth momentum, enhance its competitiveness, and affirm its position on the industrial map of the North in the coming time.
