Khuân Vạc hamlet is one of the outstanding examples of forest-based economic development in La Hiên commune. With 108 households, the hamlet manages 260 hectares of forest, the largest area in the commune. For many years, the forest has been the main source of income, contributing to changing the face of this rural area. Thanks to rational exploitation combined with regeneration, the lives of the people have improved significantly; currently, the hamlet has only 2 poor households and 5 near-poor households.

Mr. Hoang Van Xuan, head of Khuan Vac hamlet, said: "Entering the beginning of 2026, the purchase price of forest products has increased compared to previous years, so the production atmosphere in the area has become even more vibrant. Taking advantage of this favorable time, people are focusing on harvesting areas of forest that have reached maturity. Immediately after harvesting, people proactively clear the undergrowth and prepare the land for planting new crops, determined not to leave any land or hillsides barren."

The economic benefits from forestry have significantly changed the production mindset of the people. Mr. Trieu Huu Thanh's family is a prime example. Previously, due to a lack of systematic investment, the first harvests yielded low productivity. The turning point came in 2023, when, after harvesting the third crop, his family earned over 400 million VND.

Based on that experience, he proactively sought out high-quality seedlings, learned proper care techniques, and calculated a suitable harvesting cycle. Currently, his family's 7 hectares of two-year-old planted forest are thriving thanks to proper technical care.

To lay the foundation for this transformation, the locality has implemented many comprehensive and decisive forest management and protection solutions. The People's Committee of La Hien commune proactively coordinated with Forest Ranger Station No. 15 and the Thai Nguyen Forest Protection Department to review the current status of forest land, develop a management plan, and organize regular inspections.

The close monitoring by the authorities has promptly prevented acts of forest encroachment. In 2026, the commune aims to strictly protect over 100 hectares of protective forest, effectively manage nearly 1,000 hectares of production forest, and simultaneously plant and replant nearly 200 hectares of forest.

Mr. Tran Duc Tu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of La Hien commune, said: The locality is stepping up propaganda and organizing training courses on techniques for planting, caring for, and preventing and fighting forest fires for household owners to equip them with sufficient knowledge to proactively protect their property.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Que, Head of Forest Ranger Station No. 15, affirmed: The model of coordination between forest rangers, local authorities, and forest owners has created an effective monitoring network. The consensus between the government and the people in La Hien is contributing to maintaining the greenness of the mountains and forests, while affirming that forests are truly a sustainable source of livelihood, bringing prosperity to the people in the highlands.
