(Dan Tri Newspaper) - To date, approximately 100,000 cubic meters of sand have been delivered to component project 2 ( Can Tho section) of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway. With a continuous supply of sand, the contractor is enthusiastically accelerating construction.
At Thi Doi Bridge (Dong Binh commune, Thoi Lai district, Can Tho), part of package 13 of component project 2 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, dozens of workers and engineers work in three shifts every day, diligently striving to bring the expressway to completion as soon as possible.

Speaking with a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Mr. Dang Hoang Vinh, Director of Project Management, Highway Management Board under the Can Tho City Investment and Construction Project Management Board, the investor of component project 2, said that from the commencement date (June 17, 2023) to April 10, 2024, the sand quarry was only handed over to the contractor for construction. For more than a month now, the various contract packages of the 37km project under component project 2 have been busily implemented.
The contractor mobilized a large amount of equipment and machinery such as concrete mixing plants, road rollers, bulldozers, pile drivers, etc., and simultaneously deployed multiple construction teams for the bridge and road. Mr. Truong Vu Thang, the Chief Commander of Package 13, Dat Phuong Group Joint Stock Company, said that the construction volume of the package includes 8km of bridges and roads, with 6 bridges along the route. "From the time the project started until now, there have always been about 50 engineers and workers actively working continuously on the construction site under unpredictable weather conditions, sometimes sunny, sometimes rainy, to accelerate progress," Mr. Thang said. Mr. Huynh Cong Thao (50 years old, from Bac Lieu province), who has been involved with the project for many months, said he is in charge of constructing the bridge foundation. His work starts from 7 am to 11 am and from 1 pm to 5 pm. "Recently, the weather has been unpredictable, with alternating sunshine and rain. The workload is heavy, but I and my fellow workers encourage each other to work hard to speed up the progress for the contractor because this is a key project for Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region. This is my first time working on such a large project, so I am very proud," Mr. Thao expressed. Workers are connecting pipes in preparation for pumping sand for embankment construction and building access roads... Since sand arrived at the construction site, manpower and resources have been increased to ensure the construction progress.
According to the investor of component project 2, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway section in Can Tho is using sand sourced from Binh Phuoc Xuan commune (Cho Moi district, An Giang province). On April 10th, the sand mine was started and handed over to Dinh An Group Co., Ltd. (the project's construction contractor) for exploitation to serve the construction package of the project. The total permitted extraction volume from the Binh Phuoc Xuan mine over a period of 1 year, 8 months, and 23 days is approximately 3.3 million m3. Of this, nearly 1.9 million m3 was extracted in the first year and nearly 1.4 million m3 in the second year (8 months and 23 days). Dredging machines load sand onto barges, where it is measured and its weight is recorded according to established procedures before being handed over to the construction contractor. Speaking with a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Mr. Phan Thanh Liem, the operator of the Binh Phuoc Xuan sand mine, said that the mine has four dredgers in operation, with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day. Mining hours are from 7 am to 5 pm. The sand mining process is strictly controlled and constantly monitored by relevant authorities. In addition, a surveillance camera system is installed in the mining area to monitor all sand mining activities. Each barge is equipped with a GPS tracker to monitor its movement, ensuring that "no sand barge goes astray." Besides sand extraction, the contractor is also required to rehabilitate and restore the environment, such as reinforcing the eroded section of road on the right bank in Binh Phuoc Xuan commune. During the extraction process, regular monitoring of erosion is required. In case of riverbank erosion, extraction must be stopped immediately and remedial measures taken; extraction may only resume after the problem has been resolved.
Phase 1 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway project has a total length of 188.2 km, passing through four provinces and cities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang. The starting point connects to National Highway 91 in Chau Doc city (An Giang) and the end point intersects with the Southern Hau River National Highway, connecting to the Tran De port access road (Soc Trang), with a total investment of VND 44,691 billion. The entire route is expected to be completed and put into use in 2027. Component Project 2 (Can Tho) is over 37 km long, with a total capital of VND 9,845 billion. The project requires 7 million cubic meters of sand; sand mines in An Giang supply approximately 2.4 million cubic meters, leaving a shortfall of 4.6 million cubic meters, which will be covered by sea sand. Previously, on May 12th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation inspected the expressway. Here, the Prime Minister requested the Secretary of the City Party Committee and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City to directly meet and dialogue with the affected households, explain and address their legitimate rights and interests; and to complete the land clearance work definitively by May.
