In keeping with the celebratory atmosphere surrounding the 14th National Congress of the Party, at 11:00 AM today (January 19th), the Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway officially opened to traffic. Thus, the opening of this expressway, over 73 km long, has seamlessly connected the Can Tho - Hau Giang section.
This section of the expressway, costing over 17 trillion VND to build, is part of the nearly 111 km long Can Tho - Ca Mau project, with 4 lanes, and is managed by the My Thuan Project Management Board. The maximum speed on the main route is 80 km/h, the minimum is 60 km/h; at the interchange branches, the maximum speed is 40 km/h. Motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians are not allowed on this route.
With the entire route operational, the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Ca Mau has been reduced to approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, almost half of what it was before.
Previously, the Can Tho - Hau Giang section was completed and put into operation on December 22, 2025.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project has a main route length of 110.85km and a connecting route length of 25.85km, passing through the provinces of An Giang, Ca Mau and Can Tho City, with My Thuan Project Management Board as the investor.
The project is divided into two sub-projects: the Can Tho - Hau Giang section and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section, with a total investment of over 27,500 billion VND, and commenced on January 1, 2023.
When completed and fully operational, the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway will not only be a simple transportation route but also a strategic connecting axis, helping Ca Mau province link with major economic centers such as Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City, and the entire Mekong Delta region.
