Granting permission to excavate sites in the Oc Eo-Ba The Cultural Heritage Area

Decision to allow the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University to coordinate with the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board of An Giang province to conduct archaeological excavations at Go Tu Tram Site and Hao Thanh 1, Hao Thanh 2, Hao Thanh 3 Sites in Trung Son hamlet, Oc Eo town, Thoai Son district, An Giang province.

The excavation time will take place from June 18, 2025 to August 10, 2025 on a total excavation area of ​​300m2, including 04 pits. Specifically, the excavation pits include: Go Tu Tram site: Excavation pit 1 (05m x 06m = 30m2); Hao Thanh site 1: Excavation pit 2 (55m x 02m = 110m2); Hao Thanh site 2: Excavation pit 3 (30m x 02m = 60m2); Hao Thanh site 3: Excavation pit 4 (50m x 02m = 100m2). The excavation work was conducted under the chairmanship of Ms. Vo Thi Anh Tuyet, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

The decision clearly states that during archaeological excavations, licensed agencies must pay attention to protecting the stratigraphy of the relic; are responsible for disseminating information to the people about the protection of local cultural heritage, and not announce official conclusions without the agreement of the competent authority and the Department of Cultural Heritage.

The Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board of An Giang province is responsible for preserving and protecting the artifacts collected during the archaeological excavation process, avoiding damage or loss, and reporting to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism on a plan to protect and promote the value of those artifacts.

After the completion of the archaeological excavation, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University and the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board of An Giang province must have a report on the results of the archaeological excavation and propose a plan to manage and protect the archaeological excavation area within 1 month at the latest and a scientific report within 1 year at the latest, sent to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism . Before announcing the results of the archaeological excavation, the licensed agencies must discuss and reach an agreement with the Department of Cultural Heritage.
