Alcaraz and the Wimbledon 2024 championship. |
On his personal Twitter page on May 19th, the Spanish tennis player confirmed that he is not yet fit enough to return to competition, although his recovery from a right wrist injury is progressing positively.
"My recovery process is going in the right direction and I feel much better. However, I'm not ready to play yet, so I have to miss the season," Alcaraz shared.
This news is deeply disappointing for fans because Wimbledon has always been a tournament that has brought Alcaraz much success. The player born in 2003 has won the grass-court Grand Slam twice, in 2023 and 2024, and boasts a record of 35 wins and 4 losses on this surface.

Alcaraz hasn't competed since the ATP 500 Barcelona tournament in April. In his opening match against Otto Virtanen, he felt pain in his right wrist but still managed to finish the match before announcing his withdrawal due to a more serious injury than initially anticipated.
Since then, the world number two has consecutively missed the Madrid Open, Rome Masters, Roland Garros, and now Wimbledon. Spanish media reports suggest Alcaraz likely suffered a TFCC injury – a type of wrist cartilage damage very common in professional tennis.
Alcaraz's team decided not to risk further injury to his extremely sensitive wrist. If the recovery goes smoothly, his goal is to return to the Montreal Masters 1000 tournament in early August.
