Midfielder Ngo Anh Duc apologized for celebrating in front of the Viettel technical area, which led to him being hit on the field by coach Ngo Quang Truong during the semi-final of the 2023 U15 National Championship.
"This is a lesson for me about manners, sportsmanship , and respecting opponents," Anh Duc told VnExpress this morning, August 24th.
Two days ago, during a match at the Ba Ria stadium, Anh Duc ran to the Viettel technical area to celebrate after SLNA took a 3-2 lead. Believing his player was deliberately provoking the opponent, coach Quang Truong ran over and hit Anh Duc with an empty water bottle. Members of the Viettel coaching staff and SLNA players had to intervene to stop him.
Coach Quang Trường then proactively turned back to shake hands and apologize to Team Manager Nguyễn Hải Biên and the Viettel coaching staff.

Regarding being "disciplined" on the field, Anh Duc believes that Coach Quang Truong did so out of concern and for the good of his student. After the match, the two spoke to each other. "I apologized to the coach for my impulsive actions, and he also apologized to me for his hot-tempered reaction," the 14-year-old defender recounted. "Coach Truong told us to put the past behind us and focus on the game."
In yesterday's final, Coach Truong still fielded Anh Duc in the starting lineup. SLNA lost to PVF 0-5 in that match, failing to defend the championship title they won in 2022.
Coach Quang Trường and Anh Đức have only been working together since June, but they have already been involved in 16 matches from the qualifying rounds to the finals. Prior to that, Anh Đức was part of the SLNA team that won the 2020 U11 National Championship under coach Phan Tiến Hoài, and the 2022 U13 National Championship under coach Đặng Văn Tường.

Besides coach Quang Trường, Anh Đức also received much advice from family members after the match, including his parents and his cousin Phạm Xuân Mạnh – a first-team player for SLNA and a national team player. "My parents said that young people make many mistakes, so I need to learn from this experience," Anh Đức said. "Mạnh also messaged me saying this is a lesson, so I won't act like that again in the future."
Coach Quang Trường, born in 1972, is a former renowned midfielder for Nghe An football and the Vietnamese national team from 1993 to 2003. Afterward, he stayed at the club to work in youth development. The 51-year-old coach had two stints as head coach of the SLNA first team: 2014-2016 and 2020-2021, interspersed with his time as technical director of Hai Phong FC in 2018 and 2019.
According to SLNA representatives, Coach Quang Trường's coaching philosophy is to develop the professional skills and character of young players, emphasizing that before becoming a good player, they must first be morally upright.
