On May 29th, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee organized a program for city leaders to meet and listen to children in 2026. Attending the program was Mr. Vo Van Minh, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council.
Mature aspirations
During the program, Mai Thien Quy, a student from Bui Van Ngu Primary School (Ba Diem commune), shared that many students receive pocket money from their parents when they go to school, and some have a habit of spending impulsively or trying to keep up with trends.
Thien Quy hopes that schools and relevant authorities will organize more educational activities on spending habits for students starting from elementary school, guiding them to manage their pocket money more wisely, developing saving skills, and using money for the right purposes.

Regarding the need for recreation, learning, and skill development, Pham Hoang Bao Anh, a student at Nguyen Du Secondary School (Thong Tay Hoi Ward), said that after the two-tiered local government model came into operation, many of the previously existing district and county children's centers are no longer maintained and operating as before.
This leaves children with fewer opportunities to participate in clubs, teams, groups, or talent classes to learn, develop skills, and cultivate their talents.
Bao Anh hopes for attention, consideration, and support to maintain and develop children's clubs, teams, and groups in wards, communes, and special zones.

Representing the children of the Con Dao Special Zone, Do Ngoc Ha Phuong, a student from Le Hong Phong Secondary School, shared that after the merger, students in the special zone received more attention through educational activities and connections with the mainland.
However, according to Ha Phuong, students still face difficulties in accessing learning opportunities, experiences, and interaction in academic settings. Currently, the entire special administrative region only has one secondary school, so the learning environment and connections are not truly diverse. In addition, travel between Con Dao and the mainland depends on weather, ferry schedules, flight schedules, and travel costs, making it difficult for many students to participate in major academic events in the city.
Realizing initiatives
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Vo Van Minh said that the meeting was seen as a way for city leaders to listen to and understand the specific aspirations and suggestions of children.
From there, we can supplement and refine practical, specific, and timely tasks and programs to meet the developmental needs of the children in this new phase.
"The innocent yet insightful voices of the children today further remind those in leadership and management positions to enhance their responsibility in caring for, nurturing, and educating the younger generation, especially the young generation, so that they can develop comprehensively," Mr. Vo Van Minh shared.
Mr. Vo Van Minh suggested that Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, and mass organizations at the city and local levels continue to pay attention to and effectively implement the work of caring for, educating, and protecting children. The policies and guidelines of the Central Government and the city regarding children need to be concretized through practical actions, appropriate to the conditions of each locality, so that all children can live, study, and develop in a safe and healthy environment.
Mr. Vo Van Minh requested the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to direct relevant departments, agencies, and localities to fully consider the suggestions raised by the students at the program. Appropriate proposals stemming from practical needs should be urgently researched and implemented; practical ideas and initiatives should be promptly realized and presented to the city's leaders.
Another important aspect is to mobilize maximum social resources to expand schools, build more cultural spaces and safe, healthy playgrounds; and to pay attention to disadvantaged children and children from difficult circumstances.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council emphasized the need to focus on building happy schools and a conducive environment for the Youth Union's activities so that the city's children can develop comprehensively. "Not only should we impart knowledge, but we must also teach children how to be good people, cultivate life skills and morality through the Ho Chi Minh City Children's Movement following the Five Teachings of Uncle Ho," he said.
Create the best conditions.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Cuong commented that many of the children's opinions closely followed current events such as digital transformation, science and technology, and artificial intelligence. He highly appreciated the children's sense of responsibility.
Accordingly, the children not only expressed their own wishes but also put themselves in the role of citizens to contribute ideas and suggestions for building Ho Chi Minh City. Their opinions also provide an opportunity for adults to reflect on themselves, thereby further enhancing their responsibility to set a good example and support children.
Regarding future solutions, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong stated that Ho Chi Minh City will continue to focus on investing in school construction; improving the quality of education by ensuring sufficient schools and classrooms, modern facilities, a teaching staff that meets the requirements of innovation, and creating conditions for all students to have equitable access to education.
Ho Chi Minh City will also increase investment in parks and public spaces. Simultaneously, it will repair, upgrade, and expand cultural and sports facilities with the aim of creating the best possible conditions for children to learn, play, and develop.
