Recalling that time, Khang Thuy shared that one day in March 2022, she went to a coffee shop in District 7 and ordered a drink. That day, Sang Yong also had an appointment with a friend at this shop. "Looking at the color and appearance, they were basically the same, but when I looked closely at the name of the drink, I knew it was not the one I ordered," she said.

At the time he met the Vietnamese girl, Sang Yong had been in Vietnam for 3 years and was working as a manager of a food company.

Khang Thuy exchanged drinks with the Korean guy and indifferently walked past like any other stranger. However, Thuy's beautiful appearance made Sang Yong feel excited. The guy boldly approached to get acquainted and asked for her phone number. Working as a Chinese interpreter, Khang Thuy had the opportunity to meet many foreigners. Therefore, she maintained a gentle attitude when she saw the Korean guy persistently chatting, showing his goodwill to be friends with her. Thuy then agreed to give Sang Yong her phone number as a way to show politeness instead of outright refusing on the spot. Returning home, Sang Yong texted and asked to go out for coffee many times, but the beautiful girl never agreed to meet. Sharing the reason for the rejection, Khang Thuy said: "Before that, I had a few friends who also loved Korean guys living in Vietnam. Listening to them, I thought Korean guys were quite playful and not serious in relationships. So, even though I had never met any Korean guys, I had a bad impression of Korean guys in general." One time, the "opportunity" came to Sang Yong when Khang Thuy's friend canceled the date at the last minute. At that moment, Sang Yong, after a day of work, texted the Vietnamese girl. "I had my clothes ready, my makeup done, and I saw that this guy was quite persistent in pursuing me, so I agreed to meet him," the girl recalled.

After being rejected many times, Sang Yong breathed a sigh of relief when he received a reply message from Thuy. He flew to the meeting place, a European-style restaurant. Because she thought the other person could not speak Vietnamese, the young girl used English to communicate. However, the conversation was a bit boring because both of them could not express what they wanted to say. Seeing that Thuy seemed shy, Sang Yong proactively suggested talking in his limited Vietnamese. The meeting became more lively because of the foreign guy's lovely sayings and words. "After dinner, we went to the movies together, it was an action movie. While watching the movie, he was really focused. In particular, he was not like some guys, pretending to touch or hold my hand. After watching the movie, he proactively said he would take me home because it was already 11pm, he didn't want my parents to worry. His words and actions made me wonder, is my "Korean guy prejudice" wrong?".

Giving up life in America to choose love

After the date, Sang Yong was motivated to study Vietnamese diligently because he wanted to talk to Thuy more and also wanted her to understand his sincerity. The two met regularly every week. Through each date, the Vietnamese girl felt the guy's sophistication and responsible personality. From "really hating Korean guys", when meeting Sang Yong, she could talk for 4-5 hours straight without knowing how fast time passed. The two found many similarities in soul and personality. One day, she nodded in acceptance of the guy's confession.

The love of a boy 10 years older than her not only made Thuy have a different perspective on Korean boys but also made her change her plans and directions. Khang Thuy shared that before meeting Sang Yong, she never thought she would love and marry a guy so far away. At that time, she had planned to move to the US to settle down with her family. All the documents and papers had been prepared. However, after meeting and falling in love with Sang Yong, his sincerity made her decide to stay in Vietnam to be with the person she loved instead of going to the US to live. When their daughter announced that she would not go to the US as planned, Khang Thuy's parents immediately objected. They analyzed the pros and cons in every way, but their daughter still refused to listen.

Seeing his lover stuck between her boyfriend and her family, Sang Yong proposed a date. " He said if I trusted and loved him, I should let him meet and talk to my parents. The first time we met, he left a very good impression. In particular, he boldly called my parents "father-in-law - mother-in-law". He tried to speak Vietnamese so that both of us could understand more about him and our feelings. After the meeting, my parents' attitude also softened. Gradually, later, feeling that he was a kind person, my parents gradually supported us," Khang Thuy said. As for Sang Yong's family , when they found out that their son was dating and in love with a Vietnamese girl, they were very happy. About 2 weeks after officially "cutting down" Khang Thuy, Sang Yong took her back to Korea to meet his family. Although it was a bit sudden, because she didn't want to make her boyfriend sad, she still agreed to go to the land of kimchi. She said: "When they met me, his parents were very happy and hugged me as if I was their own child. Because I couldn't speak Korean, we asked Sang Yong to translate or used body language and translation apps to talk to each other... I clearly felt the affection and sincerity that his parents had for me."

Accepting a "super-fast" marriage proposal because of "family planning"

When recalling memorable memories, Khang Thuy said she could never forget the time she gave her boyfriend a gift of perfume that she made herself. "At that time, I was just in love so I didn't know that my boyfriend had sinusitis. After receiving my perfume, he used it every time he saw me, but strangely, he kept sneezing. Later, when I asked him, I found out that he normally never used perfume. But because he considered me the most important, he would cherish the things I gave him and use them all up without leaving any left," the young girl recalled. After a month of dating, Sang Yong proposed to Khang Thuy. The "super-fast" proposal made the young girl confused. At that time, the two had only been dating for a month so Khang Thuy felt uncertain about anything.

The two of them have a rule that when they are angry or arguing, they still need to hug each other. Therefore, the couple has never been angry with each other for more than 2 hours.

"However, during a trip, the two talked about having children. I shared that later, when I had enough children, I would be the one to get an IUD as a matter of course like other women. The reason is because, in the family, most women are the ones "responsible" for family planning. However, he said he would be the one to get sterilized to protect my health ," Khang Thuy said. Her boyfriend's sharing made the young girl quite surprised and touched. Khang Thuy officially fell for the Korean guy because she felt that he was truly affectionate and always knew how to care for others. Therefore, she later agreed to get married to Sang Yong. The two held their wedding in November 2022.
