On March 10, at the Grand Plaza Restaurant in the Macau Special Administrative Region (China), the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Macau solemnly held a meeting to welcome the Year of the Dragon 2024 and celebrate the 114th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8, 1910 - March 8, 2024).

Attending the ceremony were a number of Macau government officials, representatives of the Consulate General of Vietnam and several other countries, representatives of many influential organizations and individuals with important roles in Macau, and a large number of Vietnamese people living and working in this special administrative region.

The Vietnamese Association in Hong Kong (China) also sent representatives to attend.

Speaking at the event, Consul Nguyen Tuan Anh - representative of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau - said that a new spring full of beauty, excitement, hope and opportunity has returned to the homeland of Vietnam and the special administrative region of Macau.

On behalf of the Consulate General, he sent best wishes to the Vietnamese community in Macau, especially wishing women good health and to always be the "fire keepers" in each family.

He affirmed that the achievements of the Vietnamese Association in Macau in recent times are the result of the efforts of the association's Executive Committee, branches and all members, hoping that members will continue to actively participate in cultural and sports activities, the fight against drugs, charity activities in the special zone..., contributing to enhancing the image of the country and people of Vietnam to the government, people of Macau and other working communities.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh also hopes that the association, especially the Standing Committee and Executive Committee, will continue to work closely with the Consulate General to lobby the Macau government and officials to soon lift visa restrictions on Vietnamese tourists and workers as Hong Kong has done, to join hands to contribute to building an increasingly prosperous Macau.

And with that sponsorship role, the association not only seeks and develops more jobs for its members but also acts as a bridge between Macau and Vietnamese labor brokerage companies so that more and more Vietnamese people can come to work in this special zone.

The representative of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau cited data from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese showing that overseas Vietnamese in Hong Kong and Macau are among the groups sending large amounts of remittances to contribute to national development.

These achievements are the contributions of women who have worked hard, not afraid of difficulties and hardships to find jobs and earn extra income to send back home to build their homeland.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh hopes that the association and its branches will continue the spirit of "mutual love", "helping each other", listening and understanding the difficulties, concerns and problems of its members, encouraging and propagating to its members to comply with labor laws in the special zone to avoid overstaying or working illegally.

The Consulate General will continue to work with the Macau government and authorities, make recommendations and encourage a working group from the Immigration Department, Ministry of Public Security , to work with Macau partners to resolve outstanding deportation cases and limit crime in the special administrative region.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh also hopes that the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Macau and the Association of Vietnamese in Hong Kong will continue to promote connection, solidarity and development for an increasingly unified and better Vietnamese community in Hong Kong and Macau.

Mr. Duong Trung Duc - Chairman of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Macau - said that over the past year, the association has achieved many important achievements, contributing to enhancing the voice and image of Vietnamese people in Macau.

In the new year, the Vietnamese community in Macau will continue to promote Vietnamese culture, cuisine , etc. as well as strengthen solidarity and mutual support among people in the community.

Mr. Duong Trung Duc also said that in the coming time, the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Macau will increase exchanges with the Association of Vietnamese in Hong Kong as well as associations of other countries in Macau, such as organizing cultural and culinary exchanges so that the Vietnamese community in Macau and Hong Kong will become stronger and more united and develop more closely.

Last January, the Vietnamese Association in Hong Kong officially launched its community, marking the growth of the Vietnamese community working and living in Hong Kong.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Association in Hong Kong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dong - Vice President of the association - hopes that in the coming time, the two associations will have many exchange activities to build an increasingly developed and united Vietnamese community in the two special administrative regions.

Mr. Trinh Ve Dong - Deputy Director of Macau Tourism Development Bureau, said he clearly felt the warm Tet atmosphere of Vietnamese people through the charming and attractive traditional Ao Dai and dishes with strong Vietnamese flavors such as banh chung, xoi gac and gio cha...

Vietnamese food is delicious and Vietnamese landscape is beautiful, Vietnamese people are very friendly.

Mr. Au Duong Quang Cau - President of the Macau Employment Brokerage Association - said that this is a very meaningful activity. The fact that the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Macau regularly organizes activities such as "Welcome Spring", celebrating International Women's Day on March 8, International Labor Day on May 1, has enriched the cultural and spiritual life of workers far from home.

According to him, Vietnamese workers work very responsibly and are highly appreciated by employers.

Hopefully, with the support of the association, Vietnamese workers will help each other, build a good image of workers, and consider the association as a second home.

On the occasion of the association's New Year celebration, Mr. Au Duong Quang Cau also wished the Vietnamese community in Macau good health and success in their work.

On behalf of the Consul General, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh also awarded certificates of merit to individuals and groups of Vietnamese people living and working in Macau who have made many positive contributions to the association and their homeland.

Hopefully in 2024, everyone will join hands to build an association with the motto "For a better Vietnamese community in Macau."

On the occasion of the New Year and the celebration of International Women's Day, the children far from home in Macau enthusiastically practiced to bring to the ceremony special performances such as "Song of Vietnamese Women " by Thai Nguyen Branch, "Singing about Vietnamese Women" by Nghe An Branch, "How beautiful is Spring" by Thai Binh Branch...

In addition, there are special performances from the branches of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Quang Binh, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, Ha Noi, Hai Duong, Son La, Bac Ninh... Interspersed with the special performances of the branches is the lucky draw.

Currently, there are about 7,800 Vietnamese workers, mainly women working as housekeepers, in restaurants, hotels, etc. Along with the recovery of Macau's economy, the number of Vietnamese workers in Macau is expected to gradually increase./.
