Traffic safety is always a top priority in social management and development policies. However, traffic accidents and violations are still common, causing serious consequences for people and increasing pressure on the traffic system. Raising awareness of traffic law compliance is not only the responsibility of the authorities, but also requires the cooperation of each citizen and the whole society.
In recent times, in the province, all levels and sectors have increased propaganda, dissemination andeducation of laws on traffic safety and order in many forms, such as: oral propaganda; propaganda on mass media; propaganda on loudspeakers at markets, densely populated areas, where citizens come to handle administrative procedures; propaganda by billboards, posters, leaflets...
Mr. Tran Van Cao (Phu Tan district) said: “Up to now, all levels and sectors have promoted a lot, so almost everyone understands traffic laws, must wear helmets when going out, do not drink alcohol while driving. However, there are still some people who understand the law but are still subjective, disregard their own lives and the lives of others, causing traffic accidents.”
Therefore, in addition to propaganda and raising awareness of the law among traffic participants, the authorities have increased patrols and controls to promptly detect and handle violations. In particular, from January 1, 2025, Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, dated December 26, 2024 of the Government regulating administrative sanctions for violations of order and traffic safety in the field of road traffic will take effect. Point deduction and restoration of driving license points have received high consensus from traffic participants.
Common violations of road traffic safety (running red lights, not wearing helmets when riding motorbikes, going the wrong way, speeding...) have decreased significantly. This has overcome the disregard for the law by a part of the population when participating in traffic. Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet (Long Xuyen City) shared: "Decree 168/2024/ND-CP has both a deterrent and an educational effect, helping traffic participants raise their awareness of strictly complying with the law on road traffic safety".
Sharing the same view, Mr. Tran Duy Phuong (Chau Doc City, long-distance driver, specializing in transporting agricultural products from An Giang to Ho Chi Minh City) said: “Decree 168/2024/ND-CP imposes very civilized and humane penalties, without interrupting the driver's travel activities. For me, the truck is a means of supporting my family, so the safer the better. Regularly meeting colleagues on the roads, I see that most of them comply with the Traffic Safety Law more than before.”
Similarly, Mr. Phan Van Tot (a taxi driver in Long Xuyen City) shared: “In the past, when the green light was only 1-2 seconds, there were still people who deliberately drove ahead. But now this situation is almost gone. People who go to bars and drink beer or wine, most of them call a taxi or Grab to take them home, instead of being subjective and driving themselves like before. First of all, it is for safety, and secondly, because the fine for violating alcohol concentration is quite high, and the traffic police strictly enforce it and regularly check, so everyone is afraid.”
Recently, there are no more scenes of jostling, running red lights or honking loudly at intersections... Instead, there are images of people patiently stopping their vehicles and waiting for traffic lights. This change contributes to creating a safe and civilized traffic environment. When each person's traffic culture is raised, wrongdoings will be condemned by the community. From there, it contributes to reducing traffic accidents and building a good image of traffic participants on all roads.
