Chau Son commune was established by merging the communes of Bac Lang, Dong Thang, Cuong Loi, Chau Son, and a part of Kien Moc commune from the former Dinh Lap district. In recent years, the economy of the people in Chau Son commune has mainly depended on forestry production. Many households have become relatively well-off or wealthy thanks to forestry.
A typical example is the household of Mr. Vu Dang Cong in Na Peo village. Mr. Cong said: "Taking advantage of the vast hilly and forested area, in 2008, my family started planting acacia trees on an area of about 20 hectares. In the following years, my family accumulated capital, experience, and techniques, and gradually expanded the acacia planting area to 35 hectares. Acacia trees begin to yield fruit after about 5 years or more. In recent years, after deducting expenses, my family earns more than 400 million VND per year from acacia trees."
Similar to Mr. Cong's family, the acacia tree planting model has significantly increased the income of Mr. Loc Van Tang's family in Na Van village. Mr. Tang shared: "Before 2013, my family's hillside forest area was mainly planted with pine trees. In 2013, recognizing the effectiveness of acacia tree planting in some neighboring areas, my family planted 8 hectares of acacia. Each year, we expanded the area, and now our acacia plantation covers 20 hectares. On average, my family earns over 100 million VND per year from acacia trees."
Along with the two families mentioned above, in recent years, taking advantage of the hilly and forested terrain, people in Chau Son commune have focused on developing forestry production models with two main crops: acacia and pine. Besides the proactive efforts of the people, the commune People's Committee and relevant agencies have implemented many solutions to support people in developing forestry. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Vice Chairman of the Chau Son Commune People's Committee, said: To develop sustainable forestry, the commune People's Committee regularly coordinates with relevant agencies to disseminate information on specific topics, integrating it through conferences and training courses from the commune to the villages (in 2025 alone, 12 events were organized with over 550 participants); and disseminating information related to forestry development through the public address system and social media…
At the same time, relevant levels and sectors implemented solutions to support forestry development in the commune, such as: supporting 10 cases with preferential loans for forest planting with a capital of over 5 billion VND; supporting people in protecting and developing forests in 2025 with an amount of over 400 million VND; disseminating information and mobilizing forest owners to participate in and expand the issuance of sustainable forest certification; integrating programs and projects under the national target program to support people in developing forestry…
Thanks to the proactive efforts of the people and the support of the State, the economic efficiency of forestry for the people of Chau Son has been enhanced. According to data from the Commune People's Committee, Chau Son commune currently has a concentrated plantation timber area including: nearly 5,500 hectares of pine; about 11,000 hectares of acacia; nearly 800 hectares of eucalyptus; over 5,000 hectares of certified forest area, and forest cover reaching over 77%... In addition, there are 7 businesses processing forest products and non-timber forest products in the commune, which play an important role in product consumption and create more jobs for the people.
With stable prices for plantation timber, local people earn an average income of 60-90 million VND/hectare after a 5-7 year cycle for acacia and eucalyptus trees, and 20-25 years for pine trees. By 2025, the value of forestry production in the commune is estimated to reach 65 billion VND. Income from forests helps local people increase their income, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction. By 2025, the multidimensional poverty rate in the commune will be 8.49%, a decrease of 1.79% compared to 2024.
