The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service received the first report of the fire at approximately 8:55 PM and immediately dispatched forces to the scene. Huge plumes of black smoke rose from the scene, engulfing parts of the city center. 35 fire trucks and approximately 165 personnel worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings in the densely populated area. According to local police, at least three people were injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but some sources suggest it was most likely due to an electrical short circuit. Kebon Kosong is located in Kemayoran district – one of the most densely populated areas in central Jakarta, where many houses are built close together, making the risk of fire spreading high in the event of a fire.
