Ms. Thong and her experience of life in the highlands
Without the dramatic, thrilling or conflicting elements like in other reality shows, Haha Family attracts a large audience thanks to its simple, everyday stories. Throughout the journey of Jun Pham, Bui Cong Nam, Duy Khanh, Ngoc Thanh Tam and viewers all feel comfortable not only because of the beautiful scenery in the mountains and seas but also the stories of "ordinary but extraordinary" people like Ms. Thong and Mr. Diep.
Ms. Thong is loved by everyone for her diligence and humorous personality.

In the first leg, the 4 members of the Haha Family had the opportunity to visit the homestay in Ban Lien of Ms. Vang Thi Thong (a Tay ethnic) in Lao Cai and there they lived together as a family. Leaving behind the halo, Jun Pham, Bui Cong Nam, Duy Khanh and Ngoc Thanh Tam were taught by Ms. Thong and Mr. A (Lam A Ha) how to plow the fields with buffaloes, how to feed buffaloes with salt so that they remember the way home, how to pick tea with "one bud and two leaves", how to cover the roof with palm leaves so that the wind does not blow them away, how to play trumpets with tea leaves...
Ms. Thong's family let everyone know about the first-of-the-season offering ceremony, a cultural feature to thank heaven and earth, ancestors for blessing the harvest, and pray for a year of favorable weather and good health. During the offering ceremony, people avoid wearing all-white clothes. Before the offering day, the homeowner invites neighbors to come over to prepare the offering tray, then gathers together to make cakes, roast sweet soup, and make sticky rice.
Watching the show, everyone was surprised to see Ms. Thong working continuously from early morning until late at night, from herding horses, feeding ducks, cutting bamboo, carrying bamboo, peeling cinnamon bark... They worked enthusiastically and diligently with the desire to have a better life. Although the work was hard, Ms. Thong and her family always kept a happy mood, preparing delicious meals with the artists.
Artists experience life in the mountains for the first time

In addition, Ms. Thong and Mr. Ha also run a homestay business with the desire to develop tourism while preserving the culture of the highlands. She has a certificate of leadership training from the Center for Rural Economic Development (CRED) and Ban Lien Pine Homestay won first prize in the Seeds to Promote Business competition of a green development support company. Although living in a remote mountainous area, the couple always sends their children to school. Ms. Thong is also a progressive thinker who diligently learned how to make videos on Capcut and use Chat GPT.
Besides the happy and humorous moments, Ms. Thong and Mr. Ha also made the artists and the audience feel sorry when hearing about the time when people had to endure being isolated for nearly 10 days, without electricity, landslides, crops and trees were damaged due to the storm. Moreover, the moment of curiosity and excitement of Mr. Ha when he first saw shrimp also made everyone think. A dish that seems rustic and familiar is an extremely luxurious thing for people living in mountainous areas with many difficulties.
"What do you do with a lot of money?"
In the second leg, Jun Pham, Duy Khanh, Bui Cong Nam and Ngoc Thanh Tam had new experiences in the Quang Ngai sea. Without the support of Ms. Thong's family, all four artists struggled to prepare their daily meals. The clumsiness of the members became the "center" of laughter for everyone. Here, the Haha Family got to know Mr. Diep Ngo. He is a salt worker with many years of experience in making salt.
From the first moment they met, Mr. Diep was loved for his humorous and emotional personality. He made Duy Khanh "freeze" with a riddle about dragon tongue (a type of cactus). In the following days, the artists woke up early in the morning to follow Mr. Diep to learn how to make salt. Mr. Diep shared that here, salt workers wake up from 3-4 am, watching the weather to scrape mud, push water to create conditions for salt to crystallize. The process is hard work but each kilo only brings in from 700 to 1,500 VND.
Mr. Diep is not afraid to express his feelings for the artists.

In this experience, the members of the Haha Family first felt worried about the salt fields when it rained heavily. According to Mr. Diep, when the weather changed, the salt farmers tried to harvest to avoid losses, but he did not. He wanted his salt to be of good quality and have less impurities, so he accepted having a lower yield than everyone else. In addition, Mr. Diep also guided everyone to plant rice seedlings on the rice fields so that the plants would be more even and productive.
Like Ms. Thong, Mr. Diep is also an ordinary farmer, working hard to make ends meet. However, he has views on life that make people think.
Mr. Diep was jokingly called "teacher" by Duy Khanh when he enthusiastically taught everyone how to rake salt and plant rice seedlings.

"I also had a period when I made money, and I was not afraid of running out of money. I worked and achieved results. However, after experiencing many stories in life, I thought that money is not unnecessary, but what is the use of having a lot of money?", Mr. Diep confided in episode 6. For Mr. Diep, knowing enough is enough.
Besides, Mr. Diep is a thoughtful father and always wants his children to have a good education. He once quit his job as a salt maker to follow his children to Ho Chi Minh City to study because he was worried that his children would feel lonely due to lack of love. However, after a while, he decided to return to the salt fields, the job that has supported him and his whole family.
When saying goodbye to the 4 artists, the families and neighbors of Ms. Thong and Mr. Diep all felt regretful. Because even though they only worked together for a short time, they had so many memories together and above all, it was a lesson about the value of labor and the desire to rise up in life. The audience hopes that this program will last because every meal, every trip to the fields or the forest is a gathering and mutual understanding. From simple stories on the porch, over the dinner table, it becomes the "material" that makes viewers call Haha Family a healing program.
