Glorious victory
On the night of June 22-23, 1953, My Tho Provincial Military Command's reconnaissance team coordinated with the base to discover that the enemy had gathered a large force at Thien Ho post. This force was the 21st Vinh Long Battalion, the Guards Company; the Commandos Company - Cai Be and an artillery battery of 2 105mm guns. The purpose of this operation was to continue to attack the Dong Thap Muoi area, causing difficulties for the revolutionary forces in the resistance base area. On our side, My Tho Provincial Military Command was stationed in Nhon Hoa Lap commune; Battalion 309 and its subordinate units were scattered in Hau Thanh, Bang Lang canal, Nam Ngan canal, etc. In Tan Ninh commune, there was a platoon of Cai Lay local troops stationed. The guerrillas of Tan Ninh and Nhon Hoa Lap communes each had about 1 platoon fully equipped with weapons. On the morning of June 23, 1953, the enemy infantry set out from Thien Ho post, marching to sweep the Trai Lon area, Nam Ngan canal. From morning to night, the guerrillas closely followed the enemy and attacked them with mines, grenades, rifles, etc. to harass and wear down the enemy's forces and not give them time to reorganize their formation.
Commemorative stele of Kinh Bui victory
On June 24, 1953, the enemy continued to send troops from Phung Thot to Bui Canal, only a small part marched along the two banks of Nam Ngan Canal under the command of Tran Thanh Ben, the rest marched in the fields about 700m from the bank of Nam Ngan Canal. Bui Canal at that time was about 8m wide, the canal bed was shallow, with little water and a lot of mud, but it was still possible to wade through the canal easily.
After exchanging and discussing the combat plan, the Battle Command agreed to move the battlefield to the Bui Canal area, requiring the troops to urgently move their troops, and the unit that arrived first had to immediately arrange its formation according to the plan. At about 4:00 p.m. on June 24, 1953, the majority of our troops had reached the designated position. Our army's battle formation was arranged as follows: Taking Bui Canal looking east as the standard, taking Nam Ngan Canal as the boundary line between platoons. The entire front was equipped with 10 medium machine guns and 2 60mm mortars. The Battle Command was stationed at Mr. Le Van Dau's house (now in Bang Lang Hamlet, Tan Ninh Commune).
When our forces finished arranging their formation, the enemy had just marched to our ambush site. Waiting for the enemy to get very close, the Command Board gave the order to open fire, and our troops opened fire simultaneously. The units coordinated closely, divided, surrounded, and destroyed each part of the enemy's forces. The fighting spirit of our troops was very fierce, the enemy was both tired and confused. Being divided by our troops, the enemy completely lost information, so their artillery operations could not be carried out. After more than 40 minutes of fighting, our troops had destroyed over 100 enemies and about 70 enemies of the Commandos Company - Cai Be, captured 42 prisoners (including Tran Thanh Ben - commander and Lieutenant Sau - commander of the Commandos); captured over 100 guns of various types and many military uniforms, military equipment, etc. On our side, 6 soldiers were sacrificed, and some soldiers were injured.
The victory of Kinh Bui excited the hearts of our army and people and caused a great echo on the Southern battlefield at that time. Winning this battle, Battalion 309 was awarded the Third Class Military Exploit Medal. After the resounding victory above, Battalion 309 continued to march deep into the areas temporarily occupied by the enemy, creating many great victories, expanding the liberated areas, making the enemy even more exhausted and extremely confused.
Plan to restore the relic site
The delegation surveyed the current status of the historical relic "Kinh Bui Area" - The place marking the resounding victory of Battalion 309 and local army and people on June 24, 1953.
Today, coming to Kinh Bui area, Tan Ninh commune, Tan Thanh district, there have been many changes, with vast rice fields, fruit orchards, and the people's lives here becoming more and more prosperous and happy. After the war, the proud achievements have somewhat lessened the fierce bombardment period in the homeland of Tan Ninh, Tan Thanh. However, there are things that cannot be erased in the minds of many people, through many generations, that is the pride of a locality that fought steadfastly, indomitably, endured hardships, sacrificed, was brave, and intelligent, creating wonderful miracles.
To contribute to educating the tradition of patriotism and serving tourism, recently, the Provincial People's Committee directed the provincial departments and functional branches to coordinate with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities; including Tan Thanh district to conduct a survey of degraded relics to have a plan and roadmap for restoration and embellishment of the relics, contributing to preserving and promoting the value of the relics. Through the survey, the relic of Kinh Bui area, Tan Ninh commune, Tan Thanh district has seriously degraded. Here, only the victory stele was built in 1993, which has now degraded. This area is adjacent to the traffic route and Nam Ngan canal, Bui canal, so the promotion of the relic is not convenient. Currently, Tan Thanh district has a policy to restore and embellish this relic to promote the value of the relic.
In the coming time, with the attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, the relevant departments and branches will coordinate with Tan Thanh district to restore and embellish the historical relic "Kinh Bui area - the place marking the resounding victory of Battalion 309 and local army and people" worthy of its stature and historical significance; thereby, increasingly promoting the value in traditional education, gratitude to heroic martyrs, serving tourism , promoting local socio-economic development./.
