The first service is cloud phones, which China Mobile launched last month. According to Li Bin, Vice President of China Mobile Internet, with the application of the operating system and processing all in the cloud, a device costing a few thousand yuan can rival high-end phones.
The second service is a new advancement of VoNR (Voice over New Radio) on 5G networks, enhancing the voice call experience. This feature will integrate other applications into a phone call, such as real-time translation or remote guidance. VoNR is supported by the GSMA (GSMA) and two Chinese manufacturers.
Bian Yannan, Deputy Director of China Mobile's Planning and Construction Department, said that initial trials took place in June and a nationwide commercial rollout is expected by the end of this year.
In addition to the two aforementioned 5G services, China Mobile will focus on deploying smart base stations for its private 5G network. In 2024, the company will also research and introduce emergency information services for the community, multicast data transmission, and more.
Recently, China Mobile also joined the establishment of the Virtual Space Industry Alliance with 24 members, including AI video company iFlytek, Xiaomi, and Huawei. The carrier also stated that its investment in virtual space will double in the next three years.
