On May 30th, the Thai Ministry of Culture officially launched the "15th Celebration of Silk, Thai Silk Road to the World 2026" program and the "7th Next Big Silk Designer Contest 2026".
This initiative is part of the Thai government's efforts to leverage creative industries and cultural heritage as drivers of tourism, the economy , and to promote the country's image to the world.
Speaking at a press conference held at the National Gallery in Bangkok, Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Culture Prasop Riangngoen affirmed that Thai silk is one of the country's most precious cultural heritages, reflecting the essence of craftsmanship, indigenous knowledge, and traditional lifestyles passed down through generations.
The Thai government considers promoting cultural heritage as one of the key solutions to enhance the international standing of creative industries. Simultaneously, silk promotion activities also contribute to supporting the mulberry-growing, silkworm-rearing, and silk-weaving communities by creating jobs and increasing income for the people, in line with the Royal initiatives of Queen Sirikit.
The Thai Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Thai Silk and Culture Promotion Association, organized the "Thai Silk Road to the World" program to honor Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on her 48th birthday, and to promote Thai silk as a cultural heritage and creative asset of international value.
This year, the event attracted the participation of 72 embassies and 18 honorary consulates. Ambassadors representing 36 countries will directly participate in the diplomatic fashion show, showcasing designs made from Thai silk.
In addition, more than 1,000 lecturers and students in the fashion and textile industry from across the country will participate through 31 vocational education institutions and 28 universities.
The main event will take place from 4 PM on June 6th at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Center in Bangkok. Activities include an exhibition of 30 finalist silk design entries, a cultural space representing 41 provinces, a royal portrait exhibition, and booths showcasing high-end silk products.
The official opening ceremony of the "Thailand Silk Road to the World 2026" exhibition and the awards ceremony for the 7th "Promising Silk Designer" competition will be held on June 9th at NEXT Hall, Siam Paragon shopping mall.
The exhibition will showcase over 250 contemporary Thai silk fashion designs and will feature representatives from 23 government agencies, including the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand.
