The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway has officially opened to traffic.

TPO - At exactly 11:45 AM on April 29th, the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway was officially put into operation, creating another vital transportation artery connecting the Central region and promptly meeting the increased travel demand of people during the April 30th - May 1st holiday.

On April 29th, Project Management Board 2 ( Ministry of Construction ), in coordination with relevant units, organized the opening ceremony and put the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway into operation.

At exactly 11:45 AM, the barriers at the starting point (intersection with the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway) of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway were removed, officially opening the route to traffic. Immediately after the opening, many vehicles began traveling directly on the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway.

Reporters observed that many drivers expressed their delight that the expressway was put into use just in time for the holiday. Mr. Nguyen Van Yen (residing in Da Nang City) said that the official opening of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway makes travel more convenient for people, reducing traffic congestion on National Highway 1A. In addition, it saves time, fuel, and reduces fatigue.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phong (a ride-hailing driver) shared that everyone was happy to hear the news about the opening of the expressway. During holidays, the volume of vehicles and passengers increases sharply, and this expressway will reduce pressure on the old routes, making travel more convenient for passengers.

Accordingly, the operational and exploitation segment is from Km1050 to Km1138 - CT.01. The starting point connects with the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway at Km127 + 720, and the end point connects with the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway at Km1138. The total length of the route put into operation is 88 km, of which the section through Quang Ngai is 60.3 km long.

On the main route, vehicles are permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 90 km/h for passenger cars, trucks under 3.5 tons, and buses with fewer than 29 seats; 80 km/h for sleeper buses and other vehicles; and a minimum speed of 60 km/h. At interchange branches, the maximum speed is 50 km/h as indicated by the signs.

The operational interchanges include the interchange at the beginning of the route (Km1051 + 494) in Nghia Giang commune, the interchange with Provincial Road 624B (Km1069 + 200) in Dinh Cuong commune, the interchange with National Highway 24 (Km1084 + 320) in Nguyen Nghiem commune, the Sa Huynh interchange (Km1099 + 820) in Khanh Cuong commune (all located in Quang Ngai province), and the Hoai Nhon interchange (Km1129 + 00) in Hoai Nhon ward (Gia Lai province).

Currently, the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway is not being tolled. There is a toll station at Km1050 + 600 on this section, but it is a temporary station serving as a closed toll collection point for the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway.

During the construction phase, contractors continued to complete the remaining items of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway. These included completing the three eastern (left-hand side) traffic tunnels, the Duc Pho interchange (Km1092 + 640), the rest stop system, the intelligent transportation system, vehicle weight control, automatic toll collection, and additional service roads for local residents.

The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway project is the largest section among the 12 component projects of the North-South Expressway in the East, phase 2021-2025. The project has a total length of 88 km, passing through Quang Ngai province (60.3 km) and Gia Lai province (27.7 km), with a total investment of over 20,000 billion VND.
