As one of the long-time peach tree growers, Mr. Hoang Van Khuyen from Quang Hong village, Luong Van Tri ward, said: "My family currently has about 400 peach trees, mainly ornamental peach trees, cascading peach trees, and pine peach trees. To ensure the peach blossoms bloom in time for Tet (Lunar New Year), from the beginning of October in the lunar calendar, my family has started pruning, girdling the trunks, and wrapping the soil balls around the trees. We plan to remove the leaves in about 10 days so the tree can concentrate nutrients on the buds. After removing the leaves, I will adjust the care based on the weather, 'stimulating' or 'restraining' the tree to ensure it has many buds and blooms in time for Tet."
Similarly, peach blossom growers in Vu Le commune are currently focusing on caring for and preparing for the Tet peach blossom season. Mr. Hoang Van Binh, from Quang Thai village, Vu Le commune, said: "With over 20 years of experience in growing and caring for peach blossoms, I consider this the crucial time that determines 70% of the success of the Tet peach blossom season. Therefore, my family is currently concentrating our efforts on cleaning the base of the trees, wrapping the root balls, and potting about 1,500 ornamental peach trees. Normally, at this time, my family would have already removed the leaves, but because this is a leap year, we will only remove the leaves from the peach trees in about 10 days. At the same time, we continue to closely monitor the production situation to take timely measures to care for, treat, and prevent pests and diseases."
Mr. Hoang Van Thuy, Head of the Economic Department of Vu Le Commune, said: Currently, the entire commune has 158 hectares of peach trees. To ensure that the peach blossoms bloom at the right time to serve the Tet market, peach growers in the commune are focusing on monitoring weather developments to take appropriate care measures. Besides the proactive efforts of the people, the commune government has also paid attention to and supported them. Specifically, on average each year, the commune's People's Committee's advisory department, in coordination with relevant units, organizes 2-3 training courses to transfer scientific and technical knowledge on planting and caring for peach trees to the people.
According to data from the Provincial Statistics Department, the total area of peach orchards in the province currently exceeds 650 hectares. Peach trees are mainly grown in communes such as Vu Le, Tuan Son, and Luong Van Tri ward. To prepare for the Lunar New Year peach blossom season, peach growers are currently focusing on tending their trees. According to local experience, to ensure the peach blossoms bloom at the right time, growers need to constantly monitor weather conditions in the last months of the year to implement appropriate care measures, applying techniques to "delay" or "force" flowering, and ensuring sufficient moisture and nutrients for the trees.
According to information from the authorities of several communes and wards with large peach-growing areas in the province, the peach trees are currently growing and developing well. To support the people, the local authorities in peach-growing areas are actively coordinating with specialized agencies to closely monitor the production situation and promptly provide recommendations and guidance to farmers on appropriate care and pest control.
Through inquiries at several peach-growing households, it has been found that many peach orchards have already received orders from customers. Hopefully, from now until the Lunar New Year, the weather will continue to be favorable so that the peach blossoms bloom on time, meeting the needs of the people and helping the orchards have a successful peach harvest.
