Held once a week on Sunday, Pa Co market (Pa Co commune, Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh province) is not only a place to exchange goods but also a meeting place, to make friends and to exchange culture for Mong people in 3 communes: Hang Kia, Pa Co (Mai Chau district) and Loong Luong (Van Ho district, Son La province).
The stalls at Pa Co market are quite simple, just a wooden table, a few strings or long wooden bars hanging products, or even a piece of plastic spread across the brick floor, but customers still flock to them, packed tightly inside and outside. Pa Co market is like a miniature painting of the daily life of the Mong people. That is the simplicity, rusticity, and diligence of the people in the Northwest highlands, but crystallized in labor in a place with many difficulties and harsh nature.
Pa Co market starts very early (around 6am) and usually closes when the sun reaches the top of the mountain. |
Pa Co market also sells daily necessities for the Mong people. |
Finished brocade products are decorated with different patterns and motifs. |
Standing out in the stunning picture is the unique colorful costumes of the Mong people. |
