Con Co Island District currently has 117.84 hectares of forest, including 116.44 hectares of natural forest and 1.4 hectares of planted forest. Forest protection and fire prevention and control are always given special attention by Con Co Island District, with timely issuance of guiding documents and directives to develop plans for fire prevention and control.

According to forest ranger Hoang Chiem Duy, following the direction of the District People's Committee, the forest rangers in charge of the area have proactively coordinated with the District's Socio-Economic Department to disseminate information and remind residents and tourists living and working on the island to strictly implement fire prevention and control measures; and at the same time, closely control sources of fire and heat...

In particular, during the dry season months of 2025, which is also the peak tourist season on Con Co Island, the district leaders actively directed functional forces and forest rangers to strengthen propaganda and remind tourists to comply with regulations on forest fire prevention and control; organize forest patrols to prevent potential forest fires, and strictly handle cases of violations of forest fire prevention and control regulations. With the implementation of many comprehensive and effective solutions, the district has maintained its achievement of not having any forest fires in the area for many consecutive years.

Trung Son commune (Gio Linh district) has 1,015.35 hectares of planted forest. Most of the forest area in the commune is owned by households, individuals, and cooperatives, making management and protection quite favorable. Efforts to promote and encourage people to participate in the development of FSC-certified timber and large-scale timber have yielded significant results, with 31 households and individuals participating in planting and sustainably managing forests according to FSC certification, covering an area of 97.6 hectares.

According to forest ranger Nguyen Thi Lieu, in the past five years, thanks to effective forest fire prevention and control efforts, there have been no forest fires in Trung Son commune. Trung Son commune maintains strict control and ensures that there is no lax management in forest fire prevention and control.

In 2025, the commune proactively developed forest fire prevention and control plans suitable to the local situation, especially during the peak months of the dry season; resolutely dealt with organizations and individuals who violated regulations on forest management, protection, and fire prevention and control; regularly propagated and mobilized forest owners and people to promote the spirit of all people participating in forest fire prevention and control and proactively organized firefighting measures when forest fires occurred...

At the same time, forest owners are required to implement effective fire prevention and control measures, clearing undergrowth immediately after harvesting to prevent fires from spreading and causing damage to adjacent forest areas. To date, forest owners have demonstrated a high level of awareness and responsibility in implementing fire prevention and control measures and protecting and caring for the forests, thus increasing productivity, quality, and economic value from the forests.

Gio Linh district currently has 19,563.99 hectares of forest, including 3,663.54 hectares of natural forest and 15,900.45 hectares of planted forest; the forest cover rate is 37.86%. The dry season months of 2025 are predicted to have complex weather patterns, with prolonged heat and drought. This is also the period when many people participate in production activities in forest areas, creating a high risk of forest fires.

According to Phan Van Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Gio Linh District People's Committee, along with consistently doing a good job of managing and protecting forests, since the beginning of 2025, Gio Linh district has focused on effectively implementing forest fire prevention and control.

Specifically, the directive instructs the Gio Linh - Con Co inter-district Forest Management Unit and local forest rangers to guide and support the People's Committees of communes in developing plans to mobilize forces, vehicles, materials, equipment, and logistics to ensure timely and effective response in the event of forest fires; and to guide forest owners, including organizations, households, individuals, and communities, in developing and implementing forest fire prevention and control plans in accordance with Decree 156/2018/ND-CP.

Gio Linh District has established and strengthened its forest protection force (PCCCR), effectively developing and implementing PCCCR plans, and deploying personnel for patrols and guarding during peak hot weather periods. In addition, it has organized numerous awareness campaigns using diverse methods on PCCCR in Gio Linh District and Con Co Island; guided forest owners on clearing undergrowth and flammable materials; and educated people on the importance of using fire responsibly when entering the forest. Twelve commune-level steering committees for sustainable forestry development have been established; 42 community forest protection teams have been consolidated and strengthened, and PCCCR duty teams are on standby. All PCCCR vehicles, machinery, and equipment are always ready for mobilization to participate in forest fire fighting...

In the coming period, Gio Linh district will continue to effectively implement legal regulations on forest fire prevention and control; strengthen the direction of forest ranger units to inspect and guide the development and implementation of forest fire prevention and control plans for all localities and forest owners; review and inspect forest protection and fire prevention and control works, and develop plans for repair and renovation to ensure effective use.

Strengthen propaganda, dissemination, and education on forest protection and fire prevention and control through various forms such as: mobile propaganda, village meetings incorporating propaganda through the commune and village's public address system... Strictly inspect and manage the exploitation of planted forests and the clearing of undergrowth; deploy patrol forces and watchtowers to be on duty 24/7 during peak days when forest fire risk forecasts are at level IV and V. In addition, continue to promote awareness and responsibility of organizations, forest owners, and people in protecting forests, preventing and controlling forest fires, and ensuring ecological balance.
