Returning from a fishing trip, fisherman Ho Sy Duong from Dong Luat village, Vinh Hoang commune, said that previously, the use of electric shock guns and electric fishing rods by divers from other provinces for illegal fishing had seriously threatened the coral reef ecosystem. In addition, many fishermen in the coastal areas of Vinh Hoang and Cua Tung communes are constantly worried about losing their fishing gear due to trawling vessels operating near the shore. This illegal exploitation has also depleted marine resources, destroyed the marine ecosystem, and affected the livelihoods of fishermen.
In response to this situation, the Cua Tung Border Guard Station has proactively coordinated with relevant agencies and units to further promote awareness among fishermen about the harmful effects of using electric shock devices, explosives, and prohibited fishing gear, and has encouraged fishermen to sign commitments not to violate the regulations. At the same time, the unit has intensified inspections, controls, and strictly dealt with cases of illegal fishing; and promoted the role of sustainable fishing groups and safe fishing vessels in detecting and preventing violations.
As a result, the use of electric shock guns and electric fishing rods for illegal fishing, and trawling near the shore, has been reduced. Fishermen in Vinh Hoang and Cua Tung communes are very excited and confident in venturing out to sea and maintaining their livelihoods.

The Cua Tung Border Guard Station also regularly coordinates closely with the Provincial Fisheries and Fisheries Inspection Department and local authorities in managing and monitoring fishing vessels that have lost VMS connectivity, fishing vessels that have crossed the boundary into foreign waters, especially those at risk of violating IUU fishing regulations in the area under its responsibility. The unit has coordinated with local authorities and relevant agencies to review and implement measures to manage fishing vessels at risk of violating IUU fishing regulations and those that do not meet the requirements for fishing at sea. At the same time, it has coordinated with the People's Committees of Vinh Hoang and Cua Tung communes to disseminate information and remind vessel owners and captains not to fish without having all the necessary procedures and documents as required by regulations.

The focus will be on the contents of the Vietnamese Law of the Sea, the Fisheries Law of 2017, and other legal regulations related to the management of fisheries activities.
The unit will continue to implement the intensified campaign against IUU fishing as planned; strengthen inspection and control of vessels arriving at and departing from ports, resolutely refusing to allow fishing vessels to leave ports without sufficient procedures, documents, and equipment as required.
