President Vo Van Thuong and his wife departed Noi Bai Airport this afternoon for an official visit to Japan.
During his official visit from November 27-30 at the invitation of the Japanese government, President Vo Van Thuong is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, deliver a speech before the Japanese Parliament , and meet with the Emperor and Empress and other high-ranking leaders of Japan.

This is President Vo Van Thuong's first visit to Japan and the fourth time a Vietnamese President has visited Japan since the two countries established diplomatic relations. The visit takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, and the 9th anniversary of upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic relations on September 21, 1973, and established a Strategic Partnership in 2009. In 2014, the two countries established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia.
Japan was the first G7 country to recognize Vietnam's market economy status and has twice invited Vietnam to the G7 Expanded Summit. Vietnam-Japan relations are characterized by high political trust, increasingly close regional ties, and shared perspectives on many regional and international cooperation issues.
Japan is Vietnam's leading economic partner, ranking first in ODA assistance, second in labor cooperation, third in investment and tourism, and fourth in trade. Bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached nearly US$50 billion, with Vietnam exporting US$24.2 billion to Japan and importing US$23.4 billion.
