| Young people turn to workshops as a way to find mental balance after the pressures of studying and working. |
Relax
One weekend afternoon, at a small cafe on Le Loi Street, more than ten young people sat around a long table to participate in a scented candle-making workshop. Nguyen Minh Anh (22 years old), a final-year student in Hue , said that she started participating in "healing" workshops about a year ago after a period of continuous stress from studying and future pressures.
"Initially, I tried it because I saw many of my friends participating. After a few times, I found myself feeling much more relaxed. Sometimes, just sitting down and doing something light, without thinking about my phone, makes my mind feel much better," Minh Anh shared.
The appeal of workshops lies in the feeling of mental relaxation after hours of studying or constant exposure to social media. For many young people, a few hours spent coloring, pottery, making candles, or bracelets is enough to create a sense of relaxation.
Le Quoc Khanh (26 years old), who works in freelance media, also turned to "healing" models after a long period of high-intensity work. He once participated in a two-day short-term relaxation retreat in the suburbs of Hue City.
"There was a period when I was online almost all day. My work was tied to my phone, and my entertainment was also tied to my phone. Going on vacation helped me slow down a bit. Some mornings I just sit and drink tea and look at the trees, but it feels completely different," Khánh said.
Many young people today are constantly experiencing fatigue due to work pressure, information overload, and the fast-paced, interconnected lifestyle. Therefore, quiet spaces or relaxing activities are becoming increasingly important.
Experiential learning models are flourishing.
Along with the increasing demand from young people, many business models associated with the concept of "healing" have emerged in Hue. Craft workshops, minimalist cafes, tea meditation nights, and weekend retreats are beginning to attract a steady stream of customers.
Ms. Tran Ngoc Thao, owner of a workshop space combined with a cafe in Hue City, said that the number of young customers has increased quite rapidly in the last two years. The majority of customers are students and office workers.
"From what I've observed, many young people nowadays want to find a quiet place to relax and unwind after studying and working. On weekends, workshops usually fill up earlier than before," Thao said.
At her space, activities such as making scented candles, painting, journaling, and craft workshops are held regularly. Each session costs from a few tens to a few hundred thousand dong. According to Ms. Thao, many young people today are willing to spend money on experiences that help them relax mentally after the pressures of studying and working.
Driven by practical needs, many cafe owners in Hue have also started organizing workshops or experiential activities to create unique selling points. Some spaces aim for a quiet atmosphere, minimizing noise and focusing on providing a relaxing experience for customers.
