Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra affirmed that the information and images circulating on social media are inaccurate. There is currently no plan to merge provinces or cities immediately.


In recent days, there have been rumors circulating about many provinces and cities undergoing restructuring, mergers, and name changes.

Regarding this issue, on the afternoon of November 27th, in an exchange with a reporter from the Vietnam News Agency (TTXVN), Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra affirmed that the information and images circulating on social media are incorrect. There is currently no plan to merge provinces and cities immediately.

According to Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, the Ministry of Interior and relevant agencies are implementing the restructuring of the organizational apparatus towards a streamlined, effective, and efficient model, in accordance with the directives of the Politburo and General Secretary To Lam.

This content was affirmed by the 13th Central Committee as "a particularly important task, a revolution in streamlining the organizational structure of the political system, requiring a very high level of unity in awareness and action throughout the Party and the entire political system."

"For the time being, the reorganization of the administrative apparatus will be implemented at the central level. The reorganization of provincial-level administrative units will be carried out later, and currently there is no plan to merge provinces and cities immediately," the Minister of Home Affairs affirmed.

Regarding the information on the proposed organizational restructuring plan for the political system, which is currently under research and preparation and being implemented under a confidential regime, the Chief of Office and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior, Vu Dang Minh, stated that anyone posting this plan online is violating regulations on protecting state secrets; violators will be dealt with according to the law.

The Ministry of Interior has consulted with the Ministry of Public Security and requested the cybersecurity agency to review and handle the dissemination of inaccurate information that negatively impacts public sentiment.
