According to the organizers, in recent years, Hue has been gradually asserting its image as a green, friendly, and environmentally responsible destination through numerous initiatives to reduce plastic waste in the tourism industry. With the support of the TVA Project, the Hue City Department of Tourism, the Tourism Association, tourism and service businesses, and the local community, many models of plastic-reducing tourism practices have been developed and widely disseminated at community destinations, accommodation facilities, tours, and experiential activities for tourists.

At the event, the Department of Tourism announced the Hue City Green Tourism Criteria, one of the important guidelines to encourage tourism businesses to transform towards being more environmentally friendly, more responsible towards the community, and to improve the quality of destinations.

The event also highlighted many practical stories and exemplary models in the local plastic reduction journey, such as the plastic-reducing community tourism destination in Doi village, Khe Tre; the "From Agriculture , Cuisine to Plastic-Reducing Tourism" journey at the Kim Tra community tourism destination; and the sharing of the journey to achieving VITA Green certification by Thanh Lich Royal Boutique.

Leaders of the Department of Tourism presented certificates of commendation to pioneering units in practicing plastic reduction.

A special highlight of the program is the "Tree Spreading - Commitment to Action for Green Tourism, Reducing Plastic," where travel businesses, hotels, tourist destinations, and participants write down specific actions to reduce plastic waste generation in their business operations, services for tourists, and daily lives.

Within the framework of the event, the Department of Tourism and the TVA Project summarized and awarded prizes for the "Check in Hue Green" contest, with 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 4 consolation prizes for authors with outstanding works.

On this occasion, the Department of Tourism and the TVA/WWF-Vietnam Project also awarded certificates of merit and gifts to 29 pioneering units that have exemplary implemented plastic reduction practices during the 2023-2026 period, including hotels, travel agencies, community tourism destinations, restaurants, tourism service establishments, and several other pioneering units in the city.
