Dai Bai craft village specializes in bronze casting, aluminum casting and handicraft production, metal laminating, mechanical processing, metal finishing details, metal carving... Many production workshops are located in residential areas, without a smoke and dust treatment system; ash and slag from casting and recycling activities of aluminum and copper are basically discharged directly into the environment, affecting people's agricultural production and the surrounding environment...
The copper production facility of Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien's family (left) has invested in a smoke and dust treatment system. |
During the peak period of environmental treatment in craft villages (last March), in Dai Bai, there were 217 production establishments that violated the law, the main violations were: Discharging smoke and dust, generating wastewater, solid waste from production activities but without environmental records; no environmental protection works or environmental protection works that did not meet standards; not being granted an environmental license for waste discharge activities according to regulations; many establishments did not meet fire prevention and fighting regulations; some establishments violated land, traffic corridors, and construction. The province's interdisciplinary inspection team handled administrative violations, requiring the dismantling of all waste discharge works that did not meet environmental standards...
Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien (Trai hamlet) said: “Aware of the environmental pollution caused by old incinerators, we have automatically dismantled them in accordance with the policies and requirements of the authorities. To continue production, we are looking for many solutions, including the installation of a smoke and dust treatment system using foreign technology, which our family has been implementing for nearly a month now. Through trial operation, I have noticed that the amount of smoke, dust and pollution has decreased significantly compared to before.”
Mr. Nguyen Trong Cuong, Head of Gia Binh Commune Economic Department, said: “We are actively guiding facility owners to complete their documents and take necessary steps to propose and advise competent authorities to speed up the appraisal and licensing process for facilities that meet the requirements for emissions, waste, fire prevention and fighting, etc. However, this process still has many problems due to inadequacies related to environmental standards, regulations on land, etc., requiring the participation of many sectors, levels, and experts.”
Currently, Dai Bai craft village has dozens of households installing incinerators and exhaust gas filters to replace old copper casting and recycling furnaces. People are aware of doing a good job of classifying, collecting, and treating waste, cleaning up the landscape and environment. The commune will step up propaganda and mobilization so that households thoroughly comply with all relevant legal regulations when conducting production activities; strengthen supervision, grasp, and inspection to ensure that violations do not recur.
